With three kids, it seems like someone is always sick whether it’s just a cold or the stomach virus going through our house. We’ve had a few ER visits and hospital stays and it’s always been so scary as my mind races with possible outcomes. I can’t imagine how parents who have kids with life-threatening illnesses feel – how they get through all of the stress of something like that.
Luckily, there’s the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals who provide comfort, treatment and hope to millions of sick kids. One in 10 kids in North America is treated by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals each year. Every day, member hospitals treat 16,000 children in emergency rooms. Every hour, member hospitals provide surgery for 97 children. U.S. members hospitals provided $3.4 billion in charity care in 2012. I’m so glad that there is a network out there helping children in need just like Ethan and Audrey from Missouri.
Ethan and Audrey are one powerful, brother-sister duo. Enduring life-threatening illnesses side by side, the siblings are each other’s best advocates.
Ethan was diagnosed with T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia at age 14 and was immediately placed on the “high risk” arm of protocol. Audrey has undergone five open-heart surgeries to correct congenital heart defects, including transposition of great arteries combined with pulmonary stenosis and a ventricular septal defect.
Declared in remission by 2012, Ethan is currently in maintenance, taking daily oral chemotherapy and monthly IV chemotherapy. He could be announced cancer-free this year. Audrey has successfully ended her treatments aside from annual check-ups with her cardiologist.
Audrey and Ethan are also talented students, musicians and athletes, excelling at a variety of activities. Their entire family acts as inspiring examples and passionate ambassadors for sick and injured kids.
CMN Hospitals funds paid for the hybrid cardiac catheterization suite, where Audrey had her heart surgery. Funds also supported the hospital’s child life services, music therapy and art therapy.
I’m so thankful for Children’s Miracle Network and all that they do for kids and families dealing with medical crises. And did you know that YOU can help too?
To show support for the organization and the one in 10 kids in North America who are treated by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals each year, Walmart and Pampers have teamed up to donate $200,000 in the month of June.
Additionally, by purchasing products like Pampers Swaddlers at your local Walmart, portions of the proceeds will go to the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
With 2 in diapers, I’m always buying Pampers diapers and I love that when I buy them from Walmart, some of my purchase goes to help the CMN Hospitals! You can visit Visit Walmart.com/cmnh for more information and to make your own donation.
