Today the town of Joplin, Missouri, which is 4.5 hours away from me, was hit by a devastating tornado.
The Governor of Missouri has declared a state of emergency and has called in the National guard to help.
They are overwhelmed with volunteers so they are not asking for any right now, but they do need trained EMT, Nurses, Doctors and anyone that is trained in search and rescue.

Hi Melissa,
I just wanted to let you know that I’m donating all commissions until the end of the month from my Stella & Dot E-boutique (www.stelladot.com/abbyk) to the Red Cross for all the recent devastating storms. All people have to do is select Red Cross as the hostess at checkout. I wanted to help in someway!
Thanks!
Abby

This is listed as an event on there, I’m pretty sure! It’s listed as Raisin’ For Red.
Thanks Melissa!

Thanks for posting this number. I was wanting to help since I too only live about 4 hours away. In the past I have always sent cash but since we are so close I was hoping this time to volunteer my time. Thanks again for posting this number. I think more people would help if they knew where to go to help.

This is such a great post, Melissa. United Way actually has a list too, you can add your name to, if you want to volunteer. I found it when I was trying to figure out how to volunteer as a nurse, since they didn’t want anyone just picking up and driving there (which I seriously considered that first night). I cannot even begin to imagine what these families are going through, especially the ones who have lost loved ones. It is truly heartbreaking and so, so devastating.

Oh…I was also going to mention….there are troops displaced from their homes, as well, in Joplin. In fact, as of last night, when we talked to a National Guardsman, 2 were missing. Just an fyi to keep praying.
