When it comes to family activities, we love to go to the movie theater to see the latest movies! It’s especially a favorite of ours during the holidays because when it’s cold outside and the kids are off school, Marcus Theatres is the best place to be!
With the winter break coming up, I’m sharing the top movies that you need to see with the family – and WHY you need to be watching those movies at Marcus Theaters.
Must-See Movies For Winter Break
Ralph Breaks the Internet – Now Playing
Ralph Breaks the Internet came out last month but it’s still in theaters! I predict that it’s going to be even more popular over winter break, so make sure to grab those tickets now! In Ralph Breaks the Internet, Video-game bad guy Ralph and best friend Vanellope von Schweetz leave the comforts of Litwak’s arcade in an attempt to save her game, Sugar Rush. Their quest takes them to the vast, uncharted world of the internet where they rely on the citizens of the internet “the Netizens” to help navigate their way. Lending a virtual hand are Yesss, the head algorithm and the heart and soul of the trend-making site “BuzzzTube,” and Shank, a tough-as-nails driver from a gritty online auto-racing game called Slaughter Race, a place Vanellope wholeheartedly embraces – so much so that Ralph worries he may lose the only friend he’s ever had. Ralph Breaks the Internet is rated PG for action and “rude humor” – think lots of “doodie” jokes!
The Grinch – Now Playing
If you’re looking to go to the movies this week, then you gotta see The Grinch! It’s the perfect classic story to get your kids excited for Christmas! It’s such a cute and fun movie that you’ll want to see it over winter break too! The Grinch tells the story of a cynical grump who goes on a mission to steal Christmas, only to have his heart changed by a young girl’s generous holiday spirit. Funny, heartwarming and visually stunning, it’s a universal story about the spirit of Christmas and the indomitable power of optimism. It’s rated PG for some brief rude humor.
Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse – Now Playing
If your kids love comic book heroes, they are going to love Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse. This movie is a twist on the classic Spiderman we know. The movie introduces teen Miles Morales, and the limitless possibilities of the Spider-Verse, where more than one can wear the mask. The movie is rated PG for animated violence and mild language. It’s going to be best for kids 10 and up!
Mary Poppins Returns – In Theatres December 19th
I have had the amazing chance to see Mary Poppins Returns twice now and I can’t wait to bring my whole family to see it! It’s so magical and whimsical and I think kids of all ages will love it. In the movie, Michael and Jane Banks are now grown up, with Michael, his three children and their housekeeper, Ellen living on Cherry Tree Lane. After Michael suffers a personal loss, the enigmatic nanny Mary Poppins re-enters the lives of the Banks family, and, along with the optimistic street lamplighter Jack, uses her unique magical skills to help the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives. You can check out my full spoiler review of Mary Poppins Returns! The movie is rated PG for mild thematic elements and brief action. Mary Poppins Returns is in theaters December 19th!
Bumblebee – Premieres at Select Theatres December 20th; Opens Nationwide December 21st
Bumblebee is going to be a great movie for your tweens and teens! If they love Transformers, you have to put Bumblebee on your list of movies to see over winter break. On the run in the year 1987, Bumblebee finds refuge in a junkyard in a small Californian beach town. Charlie (Hailee Steinfeld), on the cusp of turning 18 and trying to find her place in the world, discovers Bumblebee, battle-scarred and broken. When Charlie revives him, she quickly learns this is no ordinary, yellow VW bug. The movie is rated PG-13, for sequences of sci-fi action violence. Bumblebee is is theaters December 21st.
Aquaman – Premieres at Select Theatres December 19; Opens Nationwide December 21
Another movie for your tweens and teens is Aquaman! We met Aquaman in Justice League and now we get to learn more about him. The film reveals the origin story of half-human, half-Atlantean Arthur Curry and takes him on the journey of his lifetime – one that will not only force him to face who he really is, but to discover if he is worthy of who he was born to be… a king. Aquaman is rated PG-13, for sequences of sci-fi violence and action, and for some language. Aquaman is in theaters December 21st.

I feel like going to see movies is all about making memories. I’ll never forget about the first movie I brought my 10 year old to see – it was Toy Story 3 when he was only 3 years old. I look back to last Christmas when I had such a fun girl’s night out with friends seeing Bad Moms Christmas. And just a few months ago, my husband and I had an amazing time seeing a double feature, first Halloween and then the amazing Bohemian Rhapsody!
