Before my daughter was born, I remember the worry setting in. It was almost constant! Did I read all the books I should have? Did I have the right safety nail clippers, an accurate thermometer and how in the world do you properly use a booger sucker? Of course, there was the anxiety about labor, the contractions and even complications. But I knew that I was going to receive proper medical care, both for me and my baby. After reading about Kangu, I started researching the numbers, and it was overwhelming.
Did you know that in Africa a woman has a 1 in 39 chance of not surviving a pregnancy? Each day in developing countries, 800 women die from pregnancy and childbirth. The staggering fact? NINETY PERCENT of maternal deaths can be prevented when they are given basic healthcare services. Kangu is a non-profit organization that works to provide medical care to pregnant mothers in communities that don’t have adequate services available.
So how can we get involved?
How it works: Gift-buyers can search profiles of “Mamas” from around the world and select a pregnant women whose story speaks to them. A gift of $10 or more helps to give that Mama high-quality, low-cost healthcare services for a safe birth. Kangu emails a customized card to the gift recipient, telling them about the donation and the Mama. Ongoing updates about the Mama and her baby make this a gift that keeps on giving!
So go to Kangu.org right now and see how you can fund individual moms with your gift. It costs only $235 for a woman to be given the right medical care during birth. Find more information on how Kangu works to find health care providers, funded by your donation.
Be sure to follow Kangu on Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest to find out more about how you can help.

A little money can go along way to help someone. No idea it was like this. $235 is so cheap. It’s amazing that these women have to endure things like this there. Great cause. Love how they keep you involved with the donation.

It’s so sad that in this day and age women the world over still don’t have access to proper prenatal care or doctors but I’m glad there are charities like this that address those needs. It’s also nice that donors get updates on the mothers and babies.

Wow what a great program. The cost of a safe birch is so little compared to what we pay here in the states. It’s so sad that not everyone in the world have access to good health care.
