Despite the many celebrities you see snapping back into their post-baby bodies in just a few weeks, it can really take a while for you to get back to your ideal weight. Your body has gone through so many changes throughout the pregnancy and it takes time to adjust. For some women, however, looking in the mirror at the extra weight can really bring them down. If this happens to be you, there are ways to feel great as you get back to where you want to be.
Get Support from Other Moms
You’re not the first woman to be dissatisfied with her post-baby body and you won’t be the last. To help yourself feel good, sometimes it’s ideal to rely on the support of others. Talk with other women you knew who recently had children and ask them how they were able to get back to their ideal weight. They can also be a shoulder to cry on or a listening ear if you just want to vent. Letting it out can often help you to get past your insecurities and feel more confident in the skin you’re in.
Try a New Wardrobe
When you’re not the weight you once were wearing maternity clothes and/or oversized t-shirts and yoga pants really do nothing to boost your mood. It might be best to do a little retail therapy and buy a new wardrobe. They have plus size boutiques you can search online and find trendy clothes in a size that works for you. Now, when you go out of the house you can feel confident no matter what size you are.
Set Goals
You may not be happy with where you are right now but you can reduce the emotional strain you’re under by making a plan for where you’d like to be. Sit down and set health and fitness goals to help you get to your ideal weight. As you accomplish each of these goals, you’ll feel a lot better about yourself and the journey.
Speak Words of Affirmation
It can be hard to get your mind to stop focusing on the negative. A great way to work on this while you take steps towards improving your body is to speak words of affirmation. Grab a piece of paper or some sticky notes and write down positive things about yourself. Every morning or when you start to feel down about what you see in the mirror recite those phrases back to yourself over and over until you feel better.
Get a New Hairstyle
You’ve already bought a new wardrobe, but it may not be enough to pick up your spirits. Another way to feel good in your post-baby body is to get a new hairstyle. You’d be surprised how a new cut or curl can make you feel good about yourself.
Don’t Compare Yourself
A big issue that women have is comparing themselves to other women they know. Everyone’s body is different and, therefore, their processes for getting back in shape will be. Not to mention, everyone has access to different resources. A celebrity, for example, can afford to hire a personal trainer, chef, and nutritionist to help them get back on track. However, an everyday mom may not have that luxury. So, don’t be so hard on yourself. If you can’t help but compare, do your best to stay off of social media as this can make it a lot worse.
Take Care of Yourself
Self-care is very important when you’re feeling insecure about your post-baby body. When you are exercising regularly, eating the right foods, and getting 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night, your mood is automatically improved. You should also do things to boost your spirits like getting a massage, treating yourself to lunch, or taking a relaxing bath. These healthy lifestyle habits will also do wonders to help you reach your goals and get back to your original weight in no time.
It’s not uncommon for women to become depressed or insecure about their bodies after having a baby. However, staying in this state of mind can lead to serious mental health issues. It also hinders your ability to be the best mother you can to your newborn. To turn things around for the better, learn how to love yourself no matter what size you are. With the right mindset, you’ll find that getting back to your ideal weight is a lot easier than you thought.
