It is no surprise that kids today read less and instead spend more time on phones and tablets. As a parent, you do not need to feel ashamed or lonely. Create a good atmosphere

A classic way of making kids read is having them do it before going to bed. But if this does not work for your child, it might be because they associate reading with sleeping, which doesn’t make reading sound so appealing. In the same way that we want to be comfortable on the sofa when we are watching TV, there should be a good lamp and a quiet place for reading. One way of creating the right atmosphere for reading is investing in a reading chair for kids. Be a role model 

Even if it can be hard to admit sometimes, it might be difficult for kids to read if they don’t see their parents do it. If the role model reads, it becomes more natural for the child to read. So the next time you go to the library, don’t just borrow books for the child, but also lend to yourself as a parent. This can also make reading into something that you do together. 

Listen to your child 

Many parents often fear that their kids won’t enjoy reading, but it is important to not force reading on the child, and instead try different variations of reading to find what suits them. By asking them what they prefer and by trying new types of books, you will find what they enjoy best. It is better to start small and have low expectations and gradually increase the reading and hopefully it will follow that their interest in reading grows too. 

At the end of the day, some kids will always enjoy reading more than others. It is therefore important to understand what level of reading your child prefers and take it from there.
