It may be springtime but it doesn’t FEEL like spring. It seems that we skipped that cooler weather and went right into summer. From 50 degree weather to high 80 degrees…..what?! I’m someone that always likes to be cool so we turned our air conditioner on last month. I’m thinking that hot weather this early in the year could mean that it could be a HOT summer. I’m already thinking of ways to keep our family cool and thought I’d share some with you!
Keep the Curtains Closed
Yes, you may miss some of that natural sunlight coming in, but it also means you’re keeping that HEAT out! When it’s really hot outside, I close all of the blinds and curtains and also some of the unnecessary lights. It just seems to be cooler in the dark so we have a lot of family movie days and nights when it’s really hot out!
Keep the Oven Off
When it’s hot outside, the last thing I want to do is turn the oven on and heat up my kitchen. In the summer, I tend to eat a lot of food that isn’t too hot – sandwiches, fruit and salads. I love this Southwest Tortilla Chicken Salad!
Keep Hydrated
When it’s really hot, it’s so important to make sure you keep hydrated. My kids tend to not like to drink water so I’ve started filling up a large container with water and fruit. The kids like drinking water when it has a little fruit flavor to it. Get a container with a spout and they can easily fill it up themselves – and stay hydrated!
Look for Cool Places
Want to get out of the house with the kids but don’t want to head to somewhere outdoors? Look for places that are inside but still fun for kids. We like to visit the local library, the movie theater, museums and more!
Make Sure Your Air Conditioner Is Working Properly
There’s nothing worse than a hot day and then your air conditioner stops working. Trust me because it’s happened to me…twice! So it’s super smart to actually get your air conditioner looked at and tuned before summer starts. Denver Air Conditioning Repair can help you with everything you need to make sure you have a COOL summer!
What are some ways you stay cool in the summer? I’d love to hear any tips!
