Disclosure: I receive monetary compensation from General Mills in exchange of my endorsement of Box Tops For Education.
Until my son started elementary school, I always used to toss any boxes that had a Box Tops for Education label. In fact, I didn’t even know what Box Tops were and what they could do for our school. Now? I hoard these little labels and make sure that friends and family hang on to them too! I’m sharing some FAQs and tips with you on how you can easily collect Box Tops for your child’s school and the impact that it can make!
What is Box Tops for Education?
Box Tops was created by General Mills as a way to help support education and benefit schools. You’ll find Box Tops on hundreds of products in grocery stores and online. Each Box Top is worth 10 cents – and when you add those up, you can earn a ton for your child’s school! Since the Box Tops program started in 1996, over $868 million has been earned for schools in America. My son’s school earned over $1,000 with Box Tops last year but some schools earn THOUSANDS (Box Tops will pay a school up to $20,000 in a year) and that money can go to laptops, playground equipment, teacher’s grants and more! If you’re throwing away a container without clipping that Box Top, you’re throwing away money for your child’s school!
If your child’s school isn’t pushing the Box Tops program, check with them on seeing how to get it started! This is such an easy way for parents to help their child’s school – especially if they don’t have time to volunteer, make a direct donation or buy wrapping paper.
Start Collecting!
It’s easy to start collecting Box Tops. Keep an eye out for General Mills and Ziploc® products at the grocery store and Sam’s Club. It’s on SO many products that I guarantee you already shop for. Our school gives us a bag at the beginning of the year to put all of our Box Tops in and many people I know attach it to their fridge or a kitchen cabinet so they always see it.
Download the Box Tops App
Of course, there’s an app for that! When you use the Box Tops app, you’ll be able to access special offers where you can then earn even MORE Box Tops for your child’s school. I took advantage of several offers on my last shopping trip! Once you select your offers, you just scan you receipt and those Box Tops will be credited to your child’s school! I love using the app because I can easily see how much I’ve earned for my child’s school and I can also see how much the school has earned too.
Shop at Sam’s Club
I’m going to let you in on a little secret….if you really want to maximize your Box Top collecting, shop at Sam’s Club! There are many times that my son’s school will have a Box Tops competition where the top class gets a pizza party. If you want to help your kiddos win (and help the school of course!), then pick up your General Mills products from Sam’s Club! There’s so many products to choose from and many of them have BONUS Box Tops! I bought some items from Sam’s Club today and when I used the Box Tops app and bought 3 participating items at Sam’s Club, I was able to earn 100 Bonus Box Tops!
Get the Kids Involved
When my kids come shopping with me, they help me by finding products that have the Box Tops label on them. It sort of become a fun hunt for them. When we get home, I let them cut the Box Tops from the products for me. Make sure to cut them and not just send half of the box to school. Your Box Tops coordinator will thank you! My 10 year old and my 5 year old twins both love to cut the Box Tops and then help sort them for me. I’ve explained to them that these Box Tops are helping their school in big ways!
Since I’m a part of the PTO at their school, I’ve came up with a great idea with our Box Tops Coordinator to get the word out to other families. We are taking General Mills products and putting them into a basket to give away on Meet the Teacher Night! This will be a great way for parents to realize how often they are using products that have Box Tops on them and to familiarize them with the program! I can’t wait to put this together – and I definitely know I’ll be gathering all of the items from Sam’s Club! I can’t wait to share with parents how much the program can help impact our school.
