Growing up alongside modern technology, I recall the scent of warm, freshly copied worksheets from a state-of-the-art machine in 1988, the ripping sound of multiple sheets of dot matrix edges, the frustration of PC LOAD LETTER (a collegiate rite of passage in the 20th century) and then the snazzy little inkjet printers that always seemed to be mysteriously empty the moment you even thought of printing something.
So it’s now 2014. HP has some REALLY cool stuff out that has certainly caught MY attention! Firstly, Instant Ink. Your printer now works for YOU. It’s so easy and there are plans to fit just about any printing lifestyle. Your computer is hooked up to wireless internet and it sends signals to HP Connected which then auto-ships and delivers ink cartridges right to your door! Like I said, it’s a printer personal assistant.
The setup process for Instant Ink was SO easy. Once you have an eligible HP Printer, simply sign up at HP Connected and follow the instructions to link your eligible printer to the program. Once your printer is connected and billing set up, it will be monitored for low ink and new cartridges will be immediately sent to your door. No waiting and no action of any sort on your part. With three small children under the age of three, “no action on my part” is music to my ears. The Instant Ink Pricing is as follows:
Occasional Printing:
$2.99/month for up to 50 pages
Moderate Printing:
$4.99/month for up to 100 pages
Frequent Printing:
$9.99/month for up to 300 pages
My eligible printer is the HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-One printer (pictured above) which is a trim, sleek multi-function printer/scanner/copier that has made my everyday much more pleasant. I can create borderless photos, double sided printing, and I can do it all from my smartphone, tablet or laptop.
The second awesome thing your printer can do for you: print coupons and menu plans and much more with the HP Savings Center!
I’ve never been able to stick with couponing (75% of the battle is going to the store on Sunday for a paper) but I think if I can do it from my phone or my laptop and it just prints directly to my printer, I’d be much more likely to take advantage of some great savings, and the savings are great. I was incredulous but after signing up with three very easy steps, I discovered coupons for even Equate brand products at Wal-Mart, which are typically less expensive than their name brand counterparts on a given day. There were coupons for baby items, health and beauty, pet supplies, local restaurants, massages, entertainment, and so so much more. It’s amazing!
- There is no software to download or install which makes this a simple way to stay organized.
- There is a large variety of coupons so it’s basically a one stop save.
- You choose the location or several locations so the coupons you see are customized to your area!
HP has also created a Savings Bundle which consists of the most popular coupon items (save up to $120 a month) which are scheduled to print directly to your printer! Just choose and day and time convenient to you and it will be printed. Here is a sample print of the Savings Bundle:
Another time-saving, money-saving, streamlining printable is the 7 day Meal Planner. Straight from your HP Connected page, this is yet another offering of HP that provides simplicity in your life. Sign up to have the 7 day meal planner delivered directly to you!
Please stay tuned for MORE posts of ways I’m learning to save with HP Savings Center and HP Instant Ink!
Disclaimer: I was provided the HP ENVY 5530 e-All-in-one Printer as well as a year subscription to Instant Ink by HP for review purposes only. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I don’t use coupons at all, so I doubt even this would make me stick with it, but I think it’s a great feature and this is obviously an amazing program/printer!!

Who knew!!! I love this…gotta share this info with my husband. It is so aggravating when you are in the middle of printing and you get that dreadful you are low or out of ink…replace cartridge! Especially since we don’t live right next to a wal-mart…it goes on a to do list and we wait to print!
Rosey says
That’s awesome that ink is on the way as soon as an alert is set. If it doesn’t malfunction, hahaha. I’d use it, we’re known to wait until the ink is OUT and then of course you absolutely need it.

I love HP printers. I have one years old laser printer and it still works like magic! The quality is amazing and the ink last so much longer than other printers.

You are right! I can’t believe how far printers and copy machines have come since my parents were teachers in the 80s/90s. I need a printer very badly. My next one will hook up wirelessly, for sure.
Krystal says
That is so cool! I barely print anything except for coupons but I go through ink so fast!
Kim says
I love my all-in-one printer. It’s my second one to own. HP too. Ink is so expensive though, wished it wasn’t.
Amy Desrosiers says
This is sooo totally awesome!! I’d probably be in the $2.99 plan range myself! I must try this out!

I was glad to see this article. I am in need of a new printer. HP is a brand I trust.

We have had an HP printer for over two years now and we absolutely love it. It prints beautifully and it works just as well as the day we bought it. HP makes great quality printers and computers.

I have a printer that connects to my computer via wifi and I think it’s the best thing since sliced bread. I’m all about convenience!

We have an HP Printer and one of the major decisions to purchase was how affordable the ink is.

I had no idea what I was missing before I got a wireless HP printer recently. I love it! I haven’t heard of Instant Ink until now though… definitely going to go sign up! Thank you!!

I left an earlier comment but it might not have gone through. It’s wonderful that HP is offerings such great savings on their ink. Printer ink has gotten so exorbitant that any help is appreciated. That said, I used to have an HP but now have a different brand…
Brandy says
What an awesome feature! Love HP as a brand, it’s always my go to printer choice for brands!

I have a Instant Ink printer, and I love it.. but I really don’t print that much.. Not even sure if I could really justify the $36/year on the ink. but I had used the free month of ink that was included and then it did charge me for an additional month before I cancelled it (apparently I cancelled too late.. or something). I still have tons of ink to use.. but the printer apparently senses that you are using the instant ink cartridges and won’t print on those if you are no longer enrolled in the program…grr.. so I guess I will re-enroll in the cheapest program.. Not a bad program.. handy really.. but I know that in the last 3 years I did not spend $108 for ink, and that is what will happen now if I continue this.. so I guess I best start printing more to get my use out of it!
