When you look at your home, do you feel happy? Do you feel like you are in the house of your dreams? Or, at the very least, do you feel as though you’ve got it as close to the house of your dreams as you can? If the answer is no, then you’ve got to start taking some measures to change this. You should be in love with your house, and you should feel your most comfortable when you are there. This isn’t going to happen if you’re not willing to put in the effort though, and that’s exactly what we’re going to be looking at today.
Down below, you are going to find some of our suggestions on what you should be doing to start creating the house of your dreams. Of course, this is going to look a little different for everyone so these are just suggestions, but it should help you get at least part way to what you want from your home. Keep reading if you would like to find out more.
Rip Out The Kitchen
This one depends on your budget because it’s expensive to do and replace, but if you’re sick of looking at an old kitchen, rip it out. Rip it all out and get a new kitchen fitted that better suits you, your style, your taste and just you in general. Now, we’re sure that you know how expensive this is, so if you know your budget isn’t going to stretch this far, just hold on a second because we do have suggestions for you. If you do think that this is doable for you though, then you need to get started choosing your new kitchen before you do any ripping. You can do the work yourself if you know what you’re doing, but if you don’t it’s best to leave it to the professionals.
For those of you who won’t be able to do this, you need to make some simple swaps that will create a big impact. This is going to be things like changing or wrapping your cupboard fronts. Changing or wrapping your countertops. Adding some new appliances. Painting it a different color. All basic things that have the ability to completely change the vibe of the kitchen!
Redo The Bathroom
Once you have done this, you can then start looking at redoing the bathroom, or bathrooms in your house. We know that some people think that this is pointless seeing as you’re not spending masses of time here, but we do think that you spend a fair chunk. You spend time in the bath or the shower, you spend time using the toilet, and you may do your makeup in there, or whatever else. But, we spend more time in the bathroom than we probably think which is why you want to make sure that it’s a nice place to be.
For example, you can consider adding a new vanity to the space. Some people love his and hers even if they do not have a partner, and if you love it, go for it. There’s no rule that says you have to have a partner for this design choice, so make the most of it. We also recommend looking at changing your shower to one that is a little more luxurious, just to give yourself and any guests that you may have that little something extra.
Effort In The Garden
There are so many people who hate getting out in the garden and doing the work here, which is why you see so many people with nightmare gardens. We don’t want that to be you, and we’re sure that you do not want that to be you either. It’s for this reason that you need to get outside and start getting things sorted. When you think of your dream home, we highly doubt that you have an overgrown back garden that could pass as a small jungle.
Once you get this under control, you can then start planning what to do next. But, you’ve got to ensure that you’re completing regular maintenance out there in the future to keep it in the best possible condition.
Think about what kind of things you would like from your garden given the space that you have got. Money doesn’t have to be too big of a factor as you can always complete the tasks one by one as you have the finances to cover them. It might take a little longer this way, but at least you will get exactly what you want, rather than a dulled down version. Just make sure that you have the space to do what you want to do, and if you don’t, adjust your ideas accordingly.
Check On The Roof
We know that when you think of the home of your dreams you probably don’t think too much about the roof. But, you’re going to have to in this case as you need to ensure that it’s in good condition and isn’t going to give up any time in the near future. Checking the roof should be a regular thing just to be on the safe side, but if you find that you need to replace it at any point for whatever reason, you have another choice to make.
Are you going to have the same roof again? Are you going to go for a different material to be used? Do your research and look into the pros and cons of all materials that are used for roofs, and choose the one that you think seems the best for you. Practicality has got to come first, but that doesn’t mean there is no room for aesthetics.
Once you have decided, you need to speak to a roofing company to see if they can do what you want them to do. It might be worth speaking to someone who specializes in the type of roof you want just to be on the safe side. An example of this would be to speak to an asphalt roofing expert, and find out when they are available to help. If you have no experience with roofing, we strongly recommend that you do not try to do this yourself as you will simply end up injured.
Add Some New Features
When you see your dream home in your head, what does it look like? Pay attention to the details and the features that your current home does not have, then make a list of them. These are the things that you want for your home, and you need to work out how you’re going to get them. One of the most common features that people tend to want in their dream home is a breakfast island or breakfast bar in their kitchen. Both are fantastic options, and it simply depends on the space that you have available and your preference as to which you end up getting.
If you just take your time, you should be able to figure out a way to get pretty much all of the features that you want, as long as you realize that it’s not all going to happen overnight. Creating a dream home takes time, and it’s not like you’re going anywhere soon, so it shouldn’t matter too much.
Extending Your Home
The final thing that we’re going to look at is extending your home to create more space. If the home as it is is too small, then you’re never going to be happy there no matter how many changes you make. This is why you should be looking into extending it, and luckily for you there are so many options.
You can look at a traditional extension which attaches to the front, back, or side of your house depending on what you have space for. Or, if you don’t have the space available for this but you do have a loft, then maybe a loft conversion would be an idea more suited to you. They are both things to consider, and you can use them however you want once they are built and operational. Ideally you will have an idea of their use in mind before you have them sorted, but you can always change your mind!
At the end of the day, your idea of the home of your dreams is going to change quite a few times in your life. The reason that we mention this is because sometimes people hold on to what they used to want and try to let this guide their vision now. It’s likely that what you wanted when you were a child is not what you want now, and that’s okay. If you’re still harboring ideas from when you were small, thinking that you have to appease your inner child, you don’t. It’s about what you want now, what would make you happy now, and you need to forget about everything else. We wish you the very best of luck, and hope that you manage to create the house of your dreams sooner rather than later.
