Even before we had kids, my husband and I would visit Walt Disney World once a year. People always used to ask us, “You’re going to Walt Disney World AGAIN?!” with a little bit of an eye roll or a laugh. When we had our son and decided to take him when he was two years old, we were met with even more people’s opinions on our parenting and vacation decisions.
WHY would you take a toddler to Walt Disney World?
You’re not going to be able to have a good time.
But there aren’t any rides for him to go on.
And my favorite….
He’s not going to remember any of it.
Ah, the argument of “he’s not going to remember any of it”. This one cracks me up the most because of course our kids might not remember going to Walt Disney World as a toddler, but they remember it in that moment. In that moment, they are having the time of their lives. They are meeting their favorite characters in person. They are enjoying the thrill and excitement of being on a ride. They are spending time with their parents – who WILL always remember that trip.
If we went by the rule of “they aren’t going to remember any of it”, then why do we do anything with our toddlers at home? Why do we celebrate Christmas with Santa Claus? Why do we take them to look at Christmas lights or go on family outings if they aren’t going to remember it? We take them because we are having fun as a family in that moment and creating special memories.
My son is 8 years old and has been to WDW seven times and my twins – who are 3 – have been three times. Each trip is memorable to my husband and I and our last trip was one of the best. Even though the girls were only 2 at the time, they are still talking about the trip 3 months later, almost daily. As a family, we love talking about our special memories of our trip to Walt Disney World.
I would never hesitate to take a toddler to Walt Disney World. After all, the parks are kind of made for them. Just in Magic Kingdom alone, there’s over 15 rides for toddlers and numerous shows they will enjoy.
If you’ve been hesitating on taking your toddlers to Walt Disney World…don’t wait! You’ll love seeing them there at this age!
Have you ever hesitated about taking kids somewhere because they won’t remember it? Have you taken your toddlers to Walt Disney World?

Ah, I love this post so much! Taking a toddler to Walt Disney World is magical. Sure there are some rough spots of toddler meltdowns, but the smiles and excitement on their faces make it 110% worth it.
I love experiencing the parks with my girls. Great post!

Definitely an interesting take on this! You make a lot of really excellent points. Curious how you handle naps for toddlers?

When my son was little, we would go back to the hotel room for a nap and a swim. Sometimes he wouldn’t fall asleep though. Now, we just let them fall asleep in the stroller, I’m lucky all 3 of my kids do that! If they are having sensory overload, you can go to a baby station or a darker ride!

We have our first trip to WDW planned for November. My older two are 6 and 5, and our “baby” is 17 months. He’ll be weeks shy of 2 when we go. I am so excited, but I am also nervous about our youngest! I am planning things carefully to account for his schedule, so we will be hitting the parks close to opening in the mornings and heading back to the room after lunch for naps, and we have scheduled a day to just stay back at the resort in the middle of the trip. But I’m still nervous!

Ah, you’re going to have such an amazing time! If he will nap in strollers, I say keep going if you can too!

I second your motion on toddlers and Disney! I had many voice their concerns of taking my kiddo to Magic Kingdom for her first trip when she was 2. It was an incredible vacation, and she napped in her stroller and did just fine . We are getting ready to head back to Disney in a couple of months and she is still talking about last year’s trip. This year we will be celebrating her birthday since we will be there just a few months prior to her actual birthday. I’m so excited!
