We have lived in our house for almost 10 years and it’s still very much a work in progress. When we moved in, it was just my husband and I so a 2 bedroom, 1 bath was perfect for us. Fast forward those 10 years and we have 3 kids – not so perfect anymore. Instead of moving (but do check out this amazing moving company near me if you do need to move), our solution was to improve what we already have. We turned our dining room into OUR bedroom and gave our twins the master bedroom. We finished the basement to give us so much more space for the kids to play. And we have a loooooong list of more things we want to do to our house – big projects like remodeling the kitchen and repaving our driveway to small things like painting the hallway and putting wood flooring on a handful of steps leading down to our basement.
I go back and forth all the time in my head – should we just forget about this long list of home improvement projects we need to do and just move? If you’re wondering how to sell your house fast, home improvement projects can definitely help increase its value. Plus, it’s always nice to have a comfortable and updated home while you’re still living in it. We need a house that is bigger but I know if we sell, we will lose money. Or do we put money into our house, finish these home improvement projects, like gutter guards from LeafFilter for example, that will make our house better and in the long run will be a better deal because it will improve our home’s worth meaning we can sell it for more? For now, we are choosing to improve our house hoping that it will pay off in the long run!
