Mary Poppins Returns is in theaters THIS week! I can’t wait to take my kids, I know they are going to love it just as much as I did! We had the great pleasure of being able to interview Pixie Davies and Joel Dawson who play Anabel and Georgie Banks in the movie!

I loved being able to talk to Pixie and Joel – they were so smart and fun to listen to.
Animation Scene
You’ve already read about the animation scene several times and of course we had to ask them what it was like to film it and see the final product. Pixie shared, “That was so much fun. Because the music was being played, I actually felt like we were actually in a chase and it was really awesome. It was really surprising because you don’t know all the details that are gonna be there, and then you watch it and it’s there.”
Favorite Scenes
When asked about which scenes were their favorite to film, Joel told us, “I really liked the part when I had to dive through the bushes and then got dragged along by the kite. That was a really fun scene.”
Pixie shared, “I think it was Trip a Little Light Fantastic because it was just incredible watching the dance. It just gets better every time.”
Filming with Meryl Streep
Pixe was asked how it felt to film with Meryl Streep and she told us, “It was really, really, really crazy, because you don’t look at things in that perspective, ever, unless you look between your legs and nobody really does that. And so that was really, it was really fun.”
Advice for Kid Actors
If you have a kid looking to get into show business, Pixie and Joel had some advice! Pixie said, “If you really want to pursue it then just do, because honestly it’s the greatest feeling when you’re on set, and it just gives you that buzz.” Joel told us, “Business is business”.

Favorite Items From The Set
Pixie and Joel were asked if there were any props from the set they would have liked to take home and Pixie told us, “Costumes, because they were amazing, and in the animated sequence, that was hand-painted and handmade. Well, all their costumes are handmade but the hand-painted ones are really, really special because they had gone through so much like process of doing all of that so that was really so special that people go through all of this hard work just for you. And it’s kind of like oh, for me?”
Joel shared, “If it was really magical, I would take the bath.”
Working with Rob Marshall and Dick Van Dyke
All of the cast had such kind words on working with Rob Marshall and Pixie agreed! She told us, “He’s such a lovely director, honestly. He is the nicest man. And he’s so helpful because if you don’t really understand the note then he’ll explain it a bit more, or he’s just such a nice, lovely man.” On working with Dick Van Dyke, she shared, “Amazing. Words cannot describe it. It was so incredible because he was in the first one and it’s just iconic. He’s a legend. And well he’s a legend to me because he was in the first one. He was in a lot of other Disney movies and yeah, it was really, really special.”
Mary Poppins Returns in Theaters December 19th
In Disney’s MARY POPPINS RETURNS, an all-new original musical and sequel, Mary Poppins is back to help the next generation of the Banks family find the joy and wonder missing in their lives following a personal loss. Emily Blunt stars as the practically-perfect nanny with unique magical skills who can turn any ordinary task into an unforgettable, fantastic adventure and Lin-Manuel Miranda plays her friend Jack, an optimistic street lamplighter who helps bring light—and life—to the streets of London.
Disclosure: Thanks so much to Disney for bringing me out to California for the event. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
