A while ago, my hair lady told be about something new and fun on the market: a clipless curling iron! She raved about how it changed the look of the curl and all the celebrities were using them for that gorgeous wavy curl. Of course when I got the chance to review NuMe’s Curling Wand… I was ecstatic!
The Curling wand is substantial, but not heavy. It feels solid in your hand-like a well-made beauty power tool! The barrel is wonderfully long-lots of valuable room for hair to be wrapped around.
The curling wand has a very long cord so you won’t feel tethered to the outlet. This cord attaches to the base of the wand with a sturdy swiveling mechanism. You can turn it around and around and not have to worry about the cord tangling!
One thing that is kind of different is that although it has an on and off switch, there is no temperature gauge. And there is no little red light telling you when it has reached a sufficient temperature, or if it is on.
The heat protective glove was new to me. I have owned plenty of hair tools, but never anything that needed a glove! The clipless style of the curling wand required that you wrap your hair around the barrel. Although some might be careful enough to pull this off without the use of heat protective gear, the glove was a necessity for me!
So, you probably own a curling iron, and you’re thinking-why invest on a curling wand? I am going to tell you why! Here I am after spending 25 minutes with my traditional 1” barrel curling iron. Notice how the largest part of the curl is at the bottom of the hair?
I don’t know if everyone uses their curling iron this way, but I clip the last bit of hair and wind up from there. And if it’s more visible hair near the top of the head where I would want more body, I usually curl the same piece of hair again starting somewhere in the middle. End result is cute, but not something I would regularly devote 25 minutes of my morning to! And, these curls were limp by mid-afternoon. Bummer!
And the next day, here I am after just 15 minutes with NuMe’s Curling Wand.
How exactly is a Curling Wand used? I learned from watching a few very helpful tutorial videos linked off of the NuMe website that the easiest way is to hold the wand vertical and using a gloved hand, wrap a lock of hair around the wand. Hold it for up to 20 or 30 seconds, depending on how stubborn your hair is and then release. Depending on the look you are going for, you could pin the curl until it is completely cooled. I opted to let my hair cool in a more relaxed state! Creating softer, gentle waves.
The Curling Wand heats up really fast! It creates shiny, bouncing curls with great amount of sassy volume. A traditional curling iron would create a curl concentrated at the bottom of the hair, but the curling wand allows you to have just as much curl at the top near your head, creating body that everyone is after! The fact that There is a bit of a learning curve on how to maneuver the curling wand while wrapping your hair around the barrel. But it is so worth it! If you like to wear your hair in big, beautiful wavy curls, you need to put this Curling Wand on your Christmas list!
I have spent the last 15 years color treating my hair. From platinum to beachy streaks, it seems I have always had bleach of some sort on my hair. This means that I am fluent in everything to do with hair moisturizers, masques, conditioners and oil treatments! So do not take it lightly when I say that I have fallen head over heels for NuMe’s Argan Oil.
The Argan Oil is rich in many fatty acids including Vitamin E. NuMe’s description explains that the reason it works so well is that it’s formulated to penetrate into even the most damaged hair and absorb rapidly. Apply the Argan Oil daily to damp or dry hair. It can even be used on dry, rough spots on your skin!
The first time I used the Argan Oil was after a shower. I towel dried my hair and rubbed a nickel sized amount in my hands and then directly to my hair. I thought that I had too much, but as it dried my hair seemed to drink it up! And when it was dry… you know that new hair-cut feeling? When all the damaged ends are off and your hair is soft all the way to the tips! And it smells absolutely delicious.
With all the processing and heat-styling we do to our hair, it seems like common sense to protect it as much as we can! NuMe’s Thermal Defense is the perfect mix of heat protection and styling hold. It is light weight and doesn’t make your hair feel greasy. It cuts down on frizz and helps increase the effectiveness of the heat-styling that you do!
I loved this product too! I have tried many name brand, spray on heat protectors, but most of them left my hair feeling either a bit dry or actually limp and unable to hold curl, defeating the purpose completely! This was like using a great hairspray… one that doesn’t dry out your hair or make it stiff. It creates a nice hold and a bit of shine. The smell is very pleasant and I love knowing that I’m giving my hair a defense against what I put it through!
NuMe has a fantastic website; comprehensive and really easy to navigate. Check out the Wall of Fame where you can get inspired by Before & After shots of women who aren’t models with hordes of professionals primping them at every angle. I practically got lost in there… I just wish they would also include the specific hair tool that was used! The Styles and Trends section is where you can swoon over the latest celebrity hair styles-experts even tell you how you can don the same style! I really did get lost there for a while! And as I mentioned earlier, there is also a listing of Styling videos for you to actually see how it’s done! Tutorials, reviews and tips that you can watch, instead of being left on your own to figure a look out! Genius!
