My kids are so excited for snow this year. They keep asking if we are going to have a “white Christmas”! We live in a pretty mild climate, which means that we hardly ever get snow. But it does get really cold the end of December and January. My son needs a warm winter coat to keep him nice and toasty if we are so lucky to get that brief sprinkling of powder!
Cookie’s Kids carries everything: school uniforms, baby outfits and supplies, boys and girls clothing from infant to size 16, shoes and toys!
They are celebrating 40 years in business! Here is a little history on the company:
In 1972, a young man named Cookie and his brother Marvin went into business together. They rented a 1600 square foot store in Jamaica, Queens, fixed it up, bought inventory and Summer andFall, and opened a day after Thanksgiving with a full stock of holiday toys. The toys were a success and they put the extra money toward buying children’s clothing for the next season. When that did well, they bought more clothing. The business was on it’s way.
As the brothers Cookie, Marvin and Sonny, who had come in as a third partner in the business, began to open new stores in new locations, inventory expanded. Besides the latest fashions, our customers wanted shoes, toys, backpacks and accessories and we were prepared to deliver.
By the late 1990’s there were six superstores throughout the NYC area, and though they previously had different names, by that time they were all named Cookie’s Kids. Also in the late ’90s came an important addition to Cookie’s Kids’ inventory: school uniforms. It was the steady success in uniform sales that paved the way for founding CookiesKids.com in 2007, which originally sold uniforms and soon after the entire Cookie’s Kids Inventory.
So we settled down on the couch and went through the vast array of coats offered in a size 5/6. We had a few prerequisites: warm but not too bulky. We prefer him to have a bright coat so he is extra visible on field trips and in crowds.
After narrowing it down, we decided on the OshKosh “Snow Commando” two piece snow suit. It comes in sizes 4-7 and is only $39.99 for both the coat and the overall snow pants!
It has a water resistant shell, full quilted insulation, fleece lining and fun pockets on the front that my son instantly loved!
It has been a while since we have purchased a coat for him, so the Alva Sizing system was super helpful! Look for the Alva Kids icon by the size option, once you click on an article of clothing. From there you will be able to tell what size your child wears in that particular item. Just input your child’s measurements and they will tell you exactly what size you need. You can save multiple profiles to quickly reference next time you need to make a purchase.
He was so excited when the box from Cookie’s Kids came!
He loved how comfortable and soft the inside of the jacket was. It felt light enough to not be cumbersome, but thick enough to provide the insulation needed to keep warm! My son was right, the lining was absolutely superb! Soft as the fleece blankets we keep for cuddling on the couch in the cold months. The construction of the jacket was amazing; of a very high quality.
It was a particularly wet day, so he showed us how his snowsuit helped him with his hoolahoop skills!
I asked him to show me his favorite feature on his new coat and snow pants. He had his a little friend in his outter sleeve pocket!
