We have done a lot of fun stuff this summer with the kids, but one thing I have been wanting to do is have a picnic. I thought about doing it in our backyard – way less stress and easy clean-up – but when we headed to the park with friends, I knew this would be the perfect opportunity. Before we left, I spent a lot of time preparing the food at home so I could just take out the food and the kids could all eat without having to wait for me to prepare. I figured that my 6 year old and 1 year old twins wouldn’t have a lot of patience after some hard playing at the park.
I went basic and easy for our first picnic. I pre-cut strawberries and blueberries and also packed cheese sandwiches, applesauce pouches, pretzels, Tropical Sunshine Trail Mix and crackers. The picnic was a huge success so I know I’ll be planning more in the future. Below are some of my favorite ideas for kid-friendly picnic food.

How fun! I have big kids, so I make big subs, and pack some fruit, chips, and cold bottles of water. 🙂 No dishes to take home that way, just the way I like it. 🙂
You definitley have way better picnics than I do! LOL. I usually just bring them sandwiches, cheese sticks and fruit 🙂
Those are great picnic I have been making pinwheel sandwich bites with shredded veggies plus some with turkey and cheese. The kids love them.
Picnics are so much fun…especially in your own backyard. I make P&J sandwiches, chips, drink, cookie,,,,just your basic fun foods.

Trail mix is perfect. I tend to cut my son’s sandwiches into shapes (for any old day, not just a picnic.) They could be fun for a picnic, though!
Yum! That all looks so good. Ants on a log are such a fun, picnic classic.
How cute are those cupcakes? And the rollups look delish!
Those cupcakes are super cute! We do simple with picnics- cheese, crackers, fruit, and cookies.
Those rollups look like they would be kid friendly and adult friendly. And I remember eating “Ants on a long” when I was a kid, it was the only way that I would eat celery.
I usually just bring random snacks. I like the idea of the rollups for the whole family though!
Those roll ups sure look yummy!
I like to pack fruits, crackers and little things that are kid-sized. That ants on a log snack is classic!
We haven’t done a picnic in forever. There are a bunch of great parks by us too, we should try some of your food ideas and take one!
So precious! I love picnics. the kids looked like they were having fun!
My kids used to love going on picnics, even if it was just to the back yard. Those DIY lunchables sound like a crowd pleaser.
We are total fruit addicts here. I love fruit for snacking. I love picnics too!

The roll-ups are a great idea. Definitely keeps the mess down!
Great ideas! When we go on a picnic, we normally will pack finger foods and fruit. Anything that can live if it gets a little warm- no mayo!
I love adorable lunchbox ideas. With Kindergarten coming up this year, I’m getting all sort of great ideas for my son!
The watermelon cupcake cones are just to die for! I’m sure it is hard to peel them away from the swing set to eat lunch!
they look adorable. I’ve been packing more “picnic” style for the pool, thanks for the tips
We’ve only been on a couple picnics so far. I love all of these, especially the watermelon sticks.

Such great ideas! I have a beautiful park right by my house and we have picnics there all the time. We like the finger foods because they are so easy to eat. Finger sandwiches and fruit and cheese is what we like.
One of my favorite things to bring on picnics with my kids is fruit like apples, strawberries, blueberries and blackberries. I like these because they are easy to eat with the hands and kids enjoy them.
Looks like they enjoyed their picnic! We like to bring things like apple slices, grapes, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, chips, and juice boxes.
These are wonderful ideas. I love going on picnics. I like the tortilla wraps and the Grilled Cheese and Apple Skewers.
