Plumbing issues are most homeowners’ worst nightmares. No one wants to have to live without any of the sinks, toilets, showers, or bathtubs not working in their home. In fact most people also dread having to deal with problems associated with the hot water heater. The good news is that once plumbing problems are detected there are things that you can do to make sure that you are able to get your home back in full working order quickly.
Issues with the Kitchen Sink
The area in most people’s homes that has the most plumbing problems is the kitchen sink. This can be very frustrating for moms because it can be difficult to prepare meals, do dishes, and keep your house clean without the use of your kitchen sink. It can actually be almost impossible to get all of your work done as a mom if you do not have a kitchen sink. So as a mom when something goes wrong here you might feel easily frustrated.
Understanding the Kitchen Sink
To be able to understand plumbing issues with the kitchen sink, you first must understand some basics about the kitchen sink. The kitchen sink is made up of the kitchen faucet, the sink (or bowl), drain basket, and sometimes the garbage disposal. If you feel like your sink is the problem or if you just need a new one there are many plumbing tips that you should know before you replace your sink.
The Most Common Kitchen Sink Problems
There are four common problems with kitchen sinks that can happen with the plumbing. Here are some tips for taking care of these common problems with the kitchen sink.
Leaking Drain Baskets
If you have a leaking drain basket you might not think that it is a big deal. However this can cause damages to your cabinets and flooring underneath the sink so it is something that should be taken care of right away. The best solution is to replace the drain bucket which most homeowners will find to be an easy process.
Garbage Disposal that is Not Working
Garbage disposals are notorious for breaking. Many times the reason for the breaks is that there is some type of user error. Either the wrong temperature of water is used or there is no water used at all when the disposal is running. Most of the time you will have to replace the garbage disposal or have it removed. These are not typically an easy fix which means that sometimes it is more expensive to repair the one that you already own than to get a new one.
In these cases, it is best to avoid causing damage to your garbage disposal and save some money by looking for a plumber to install it or provide maintenance properly. It can ensure that it runs smoothly and efficiently, preventing the need for costly repairs or replacements.
Drain Clogs
Drain clogs are one of the most common kitchen problems and one that can be difficult to remove. You can try a number of methods or treatments at home but many times a stubborn clogged drain is going to require you to have a little help from a professional plumber like Ritz Plumbing. Having a plumber come out if you are not familiar with plumbing can help you to avoid damaging your pipes if you are not sure how to use specific pieces of equipment.
Kitchen Faucet that is Clogged or Leaking
Issues with kitchen faucets are also pretty common. Sometimes your faucet might just leak a little water from around the handle area. Other times you might notice that your water does not seem to flow like it once did. Unscrewing the aerator and checking to see if there are any particles can help you determine if the faucet is clogged. Allowing the water to run without the aerator can help to quickly and easily fix this problem. If that does not work you might need to take apart the faucet which is another reason you might want your plumber’s number handy.
Having a kitchen sink that is not fully functioning can be very frustrating and trying. If you are able to manage on your own then this can be something that is easy to get taken care of. If you struggle then you might find that hiring someone works best for your needs. Plus you do not have to worry about messing anything up if you hire someone.

This is a really great article! As a mom, I often find that I can’t do everything myself. Honestly, with four young kids and helping to manage my husband’s business, I can’t. Normally, the first thing I do is call a plumbing service. However, sometimes events happen on holidays that can’t be helped. For example, yesterday was Labor Day and I supposed that local companies wouldn’t be able to help me and so I resorted to your blog post. It really helped me to resolve the issue that I was having. Thank you!
