“I’ll NEVER use this math when I grow up”. How many times have you said that? I know I said that multiple times growing up when talking about my math classes and even some of my science classes. I never wanted to do anything in that field so I knew I would most likely not ever use it. When I help my son with his homework, I always think there is so much of this stuff that he will never use in real life. But as he expresses an interest in drawing, computer coding and more, I know that it’s most likely he WILL use this in real life and that it’s a good thing for all kids to know. But how can you make it fun for them? That is where Pixar in a Box comes in!
About Pixar in a Box
Pixar in a Box was created to help parents and teachers answer that question all kids ask at some time in their life – why do I need to learn this? Through interactive lessons taught by actual Pixar employees, kids will learn how to take concepts they are taught in school and how they would apply them creatively if they were working for Pixar!
Right now there are 9 topics and each topic is broken into 2 lessons. Kids of ALL ages are able to complete these lessons as the math concepts don’t go beyond the elementary age level. There are some lessons that are geared for high school students but most are geared for all ages. Lessons take an hour or less to complete and your kids will learn everything from animating curves to rigging and more! Now, you’ll actually be able to show kids how they would be using that math!
Best of all? These lessons are 100% FREE and can be done right at home and most have a hands-on activity to do at the end of each lesson! This is a great activity to have your kids start doing this summer. Can you imagine when they get to school this fall and let their teacher and classmates know what they have been learning thanks to PIXAR?
Finding Dory Effects Lesson
A brand new topic has just been introduced and it’s all about Finding Dory! The Finding Dory Effects lesson introduces kids to particle systems and how to simulate water, fireworks and more!
Pixar in a Box was created because teachers and parents have reached out to Pixar about help with curriculum. Pixar wants to hire the best and brightest people – they are already getting a jumpstart by teaching so many kids how to apply math to a creative outlet!
Pixar in a Box is completely free and you can check out their website for more info and how to get started on the lessons!
Do you think your kids – or even you – would like these fun lessons?
Disclosure: Disney provided an all expenses paid trip to Los Angeles including travel, accommodations and activities. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
I love it! Khan Academy even helped me through college! Pixar really rocked it with their math program! Thanks so much for the share!
What a great to make learning more interesting. I love that it’s free too.
This looks wonderful! I love that it’s interactive and would definitely make learning more fun.
This would be great especially over summers where I feel like kids lose so much of what they learned from the school year.
This sounds like a great way to make learning interesting.
Love it! I love when I see fun and interesting ways that the kids can learn!
Sounds like a good idea
my nephew would totally love this! He is high energy and would love to know how what he’s learning in school could be put to use in making movies.
I have never heard of Pixar in a Box. This is a great way to make learning fun for kids and shows they will use it later in life. I love this idea and that it is free. Thank you for sharing.
