The new school year has started and I can already say that Hayden is doing a lot better this year than last. Kindergarten was such a huge adjustment for him last year and I was worried about this year since he would be going full-day but besides being a little tired, he’s been doing great! At a recent curriculum night, his teacher told us there wouldn’t be a nightly homework assignment. Instead, she might give out homework and it’s due the next week. She encouraged us to have the kids read from their free Storia account and also to practice math on the computer. Surprisingly – because my husband and I are not good at math – Hayden seems to like it and is good at it too. When I introduced him to Go Math! Academy at home, he was excited to try it out.
is an online, at-home learning program based on Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s enormously successful GO Math!™ textbook curriculum, used by over 7 million kids worldwide. Go Math! Academy offers thousands of math practice problems, hundreds or help videos, and plenty of games and rewards to make learning fun!
Setting up an account with Go Math! Academy is easy. Your account can let up to five children participate, but since I just have Hayden it went very quickly.I like that both Hayden and I have a dashboard so I can see how he is progressing and any rewards he has received. You’ll even receive an email with a Quick Progress Report that will let you know how your child is doing.
Since they haven’t even touched on subtraction yet in first grade, he has been focusing on addition. Go Math! Academy is very simple to navigate and Hayden – who is 6 – has no problem doing it all himself. I like that he can choose between two different themes – Rocket to Space or Sub under the Sea – to keep his interest high. As he works at his own pace, he earns awards. Once he masters certain skills, there are even more fun games to unlock.
Available for grades K-6, Go Math! Academy is a lively, engaging online experience that empowers children to complete the grade-level curriculum in order to select the skill they want to practice. The program is aligned with the goals of the Common Core State Standards and while that is different from the way we learned math, I like that there are Math Help Tips that give us step by step instructions and videos on how we can help our children succeed in math.
I really like the Math Help Video Library. The videos feature expert instructors (and loveable puppets to engage younger kids) who make math concepts clear and fun! The videos are great to help refresh your child’s memory on something they have previously learned or to help review for a test. Hayden is a highly visual learner and he loves watching videos on YouTube. He will watch videos about toys and memorize all of these facts. I’ve always said, if only there were videos that could teach him what he really needs to know! And there is with Go Math! Academy.
Since your child can work at their own pace, they re always going to be challenged. They can work ahead or they can continue to review what is being learned at their current grade level. Go Math! Academy is great for children that are homeschooled or if you’re just looking for math enrichment and support.
