We have a party coming up, and thought that unique and funny photo props would be not only fun, but a great memento of the night! And they weren’t that hard to make using the right tools. At first I used foam board, but found that even with the sharpest X-ACTO knife, it was really hard to get a clean cut. There are MANY tutorials on Pinterest but here are a few we came up with:
Supplies:
- Thin but sturdy white cardboard
- Permanent Markers-We used Elmers Popperz
- X-ACTO knife
- 3/16 dowels
- Glue gun
- Cutting board
- Felt (optional)
Here is our first go at using the thicker foam board. I found it was kind of hard, at first, to get the right sizing of the lips and such, but after a while we had it down!
The white cardboard (from a shipping box) was much easier to work with and gave a nicer edge when cutting.
We adhered the dowels to the prop shapes we had cut out, alternating which side we adhered them to so people could easily hold one in each hand. I also found that gluing a small rectangular piece of felt to each side of the dowel where you had already attached it with hot glue makes it a bit sturdier, in the case you were making these for a kid’s party.
The possibilities are endless: Halloween, Christmas, Superheros… Have fun!

My friend got married last fall and they made props like this and then a backdrop so that people could take photobooth like pictures. They turned out cute and I thought it was a neat way to get pictures of guests instead of just the wedding party. 🙂

You are a really good artist. I love all your creativity. But the dreaded hot glue gun. I got really badly burned the last time I used one of those. I live that you created note than just mustaches…the hair, the crown. It would be super cute to see children playing with these as well in photos.

I was thinking about making my own photo props for my son’s stash bash. I ended up just ordering them from a print shop on Esty. Next time I think I will save myself some money and just do it this way.
