I have to admit I was thoroughly taken with rolled fabric roses ever since they made their way into Etsy stores and boutiques a few seasons ago. From gorgeous make-your-heart-beat-faster raw silk roses in chic bridal headpieces, to party-in-your-hair almost lollipop looking bright roses fastened to alligator clips for the little girls, now they are everywhere!
I knew I had to figure this versatile hair flair out. From what I have read and tried, there are many ways on how to make rolled roses, but I am giving you what I found to be the easiest. You will need a strip of fabric or ribbon, a small piece of felt and a hot glue gun.
Start with a strip of fabric or ribbon, anywhere from 1” to 3” wide. You can fold it in half and make the print of the fabric more prominent, or you can leave it as is to get an almost equal amount of the front and back of your fabric visible on your finished rose.
In my demonstration I chose a strip about 2” wide and folded it.
Fold one end of your fabric strip again and again creating a taper until it is small and easy to glue into the center of your felt circle.
Holding the circle with one hand and the fabric with the other, start twisting the fabric around the center, periodically securing the rolled fabric to the felt with glue as you go.
Continue to roll the fabric and secure with glue until you have the size of flower that you would like. You can go beyond the size of the felt by gluing the rolled fabric to the last layer of rolled fabric.
When you have the size you would like, take the tail and adhere it to the felt securely. Trim off any excess fabric. Now you can secure them to a fabric covered alligator clip, headband or just about anything that could use a little pizzazz!
Ta-da! What will you add your rolled roses to?
I’ve made fabric flowers, but never a rolled rose. I can’t wait to make some – soon!!!
I had to pin this it is so cute to make either to pin them on outfits or wear in your hair just love that you can create these so easily.
I love these! Especially because they use a glue gun.
