Growing up, my mom was always involved in my school – she was a classroom mom, on the parent-teacher board and was frequently in the school volunteering for events. Sure, it may have been embarrassing the older I got but I liked that she was so involved in my school and I always wanted to be that kind of parent to my kids. So when my son started Kindergarten, I made sure to sign-up and volunteer for as many events as I could.
At the end of the year, I was approached to join the parent-teacher group at my son’s school and I actually jumped at the chance. My position would be Activities Director meaning that I was in charge of planning activities at the school like Visit with Santa and Movie Night. Being behind the scenes totally opened my eyes to how hard these parents work to organize these events and raise money to provide so much for the students and teachers at our school. We work a lot of hours to make sure the kids have fun events and that teachers get what they need for their classrooms!
One of the hardest things about being on the board of our parent-teacher group can be trying to get volunteers for all of our events. I know in the past they have sent home flyers where parents can then send it back in if they want to volunteer for an event or teachers have sent out an email asking for help – doesn’t that seem like a lot of work? During the past year, we have been able to let volunteers sign-up online but I’ve finally found the perfect website for our parent-teacher group! It’s called VolunteerSpot and it’s made volunteering and managing events at school so much easier!
When you organize an event like Visit with Santa that will need over 60 parent volunteers, it means that you have to be organized. If you’re not, your event will most likely be a disaster! VolunteerSpot is an easy to use website that you can use to stay organized for events – it’s all you need for your scheduling and fundraising needs.
VolunteerSpot is the leading online coordination app that makes it easy for people everywhere to join together and make a difference. Free time-saving organization and fundraising tools make volunteering at schools, teams, faith groups and nonprofits a snap — easy to sign up, schedule, and track! Finally an end to frustrating ‘reply-all’ email, spreadsheet juggling and phone tag. Launched in 2009, VolunteerSpot has more than 5 million volunteers in service… and growing!
I signed up for VolunteerSpot which was super easy – and free! The first event that I decided to start planning was our annual Chili Cook-off and Parents vs. Teachers Volleyball Game which is next month. We always need people to bring in chili and also sign up to play volleyball!
VolunteerSpot makes it so easy to make a sign-up form for volunteers online. There’s really nothing complicated about the whole process.
I was able to easily add how many volunteers I needed to bring in chili and sign up to play volleyball. I love that VolunteerSpot makes it easy by being able to use auto fill or a repeating pattern which will be a huge help for bigger events. You can even choose a unique theme and background for your sign-up. I think I found the perfect one for our volleyball and chili night, don’t you think?
VolunteerSpot is a huge WIN for me and I love that it’s free, too. If you are organizing ANY upcoming event, you’re going to want to use VolunteerSpot. I think your volunteers will appreciate how easy it is to sign-up and you’ll love it too.
What’s your favorite event to volunteer for?
VolunteerSpot seems like an easy and efficient way to get the information. I was room mother and on the PTA and it is hard to get volunteers, we were lucky that we usually had enough but that was 20 years ago and things are a bit different now.
This is an awesome app!! Seriously. I am going to send this to my son’s soccer team mom – she is gonna love it.
VolunteerSpot sounds like a great app! One of the biggest roadblocks to volunteering is the sheer logistics of it. I love this!
This sounds like a great app. I wish I had this when I was organizing events when my son was in school.
This is such a wonderful app! I always look for places to volunteer, and sometimes I come up short, this would be a big help for me.
This is really neat! Coordinating volunteering can be hard so I am all for anything that makes it easier!
This will simplify PTA events so much more, thanks for sharing. I think we might even use this for the upcoming Halloween carnival!
OHHH Our school could totally use this! We need some kind of sign up sheet for volunteers! It is SO hard to get all the information out there to everyone without something like this.
It can be so tough trying to get everyone organized, unless you’re willing to spend all day & night on the phone. This is going to make my life so much simpler.
Looks so handy! I love getting things communicated effectively and this seems like it would make life so much easier!
This is really cool. I know it would be helpful as a parent to be able to get info so easily!
I have three kids and since one is in middle school, I deal with a total of eight teachers. A program like Volunteer Spot would be an absolute life saver!
Organizing volunteers is such a beast! This really looks like it could make life so much easier.
What a smart app to help you get your teams for school or the PTA organized. I need to share this with the mom’s at the kid’s school.
This is such a smart idea. I run our swim team and struggle hard core to get people to volunteer and to keep track of it all. Thanks for sharing…
This sounds pretty great. Volunteering can be hard for me with so much going on but it’s important for me to get involved, so this is a really great option!
This looks like a game changer for signing up to volunteer. I want to be very involved with my children’s school also. Hopefully they’re as organized as this appears to be.
I just used this for the first time this year. For our daughters school as well as for some church volunteering. It works well… wish it had been around two years ago when I chaired a silent auction. Or maybe it was and I just didn’t know.
This looks like a great program to keep everything organized. I haven’t had to organize a volunteer event before but I would definitely use VolunteerSpot if I do.
This sounds like a great place to bring caring people together. Like how you can organize an event.
This is really great for organizing your volunteers. Wish this had been around when I was in the PTA when my kids were in elementary school.
It’s so awesome that you are able to be so active at your kids school. I love how there is an app that makes everything easier for us , even volunteerig.
I volunteered constantly when my kids were in elementary school, often as the ‘room mom’ or volunteer coordinator. This would have been such a welcome coordination tool! So many phone calls and emails when I did it.
That sounds like a nice and easy way to organize an event! I personally love volunteering for mission trips.
I love volunteering with my daughter’s Girl Scout Troop! Volunteer Spot would make that a lot easier for parents to take shifts!
I like to volunteer for the fundraisers for our local food bank. Volunteer Spot would make coordinating everyone so much easier. I will have to check it out.
VolunteerSpot sounds like an amazing way to get everyone on the same page. I will have to let my friend know about this. She organizes a lot of school fundraisers.
Volunteer put sounds like an awesome site. It’s great to be able to get people together to help and it be completely easy. I will talk to my activity chairs about this app.
That sounds like an awesome app! There are some events I have participated with in the past that could have used this!
I am going to check this out. I am having a hard time finding a volunteer opportunity that kiddo would be interested in that takes children. Most of the ones she wants to do you have to be 18 – like at animal shelters.
Looks like a cool app. Thank you for the review
This would be a great app for my church. We have so many functions to organize!
This app looks very easy for people to use!
what a great way to help organize an event when you need volunteers.
Organizing with so many people involved really can get messy if y ou don’t have a plan! This sounds great and very helpful too.
Sharing with my daughter…she is very active in her kids schools. This sounds like something she could use.
I just used Volunteer Spot for the first time this week for my daughter’s Cheerleading Showcase. It was so easy to sign up to bring & work at the event. Much easier for organizers to see who they have helping and areas that they still need to fill!
this is a great idea! It sure saves the organizers a lot of time and effort, and could also help prevent errors. I love programs that make things run more efficiently!
