This week, I had the chance to bring my son to an event at our local library – a night with Mo Willems! Mo Willems has been described as the “Dr. Seuss of our generation,” and is the creator of the beloved children’s classics “Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!”, “Knuffle Bunny,” and the Elephant and Piggie series. We were so excited to hear him speak and check out the New Mo Willems Book Welcome!
If you get the chance to see Mo Willems in person, GO! He was so funny and the kids were cracking up the entire time. He read a few pages from his new book Welcome: A Mo Willems Guide for New Arrivals and then he read us an Elephant and Piggie book (yay!) and his new book coming out this fall.
My son absolutely loves all of Mo Willems books and this was such a fun thing to experience with him. I think he had a huge smile on his face the whole time and even got to ask him a question when he took audience questions. Hayden asked him where he got his orange shoes (they were VERY orange!) and the answer? At the shoe store!
I also loved that he had every teacher and librarian raise their hand while we gave them a round of applause. It’s thanks to Mo Willems, my son’s teacher and librarian that my son has a love of reading!
The new Mo Willems book Welcome is the perfect gift for a baby shower or really just any age! We were so excited that he signed our copy of Welcome, drew the pigeon in Hayden’s favorite book The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog and he signed my bag!
Before we went to the event Hayden found a hot dog (ha!) and wore his new shirt that I made him with my Cricut! I JUST started making shirts but I can see how it can quickly become so much fun!
What is your favorite Mo Willems book?
