We know mums love to be their children’s superheroines, yet often feel guilty to leave them and take some time off for themselves. But grandmas, aunties, best friends and babysitters are there to help you look after and support the kids so you can get some solo (or just kid-free) time. And there are plenty of things mums can do in even just an hour or two.
So for getting the break every mama needs, here are 11 tips and activities to try:
- Get comfy and take a long nap
Sleep deprivation is killer, so recharge your batteries and improve your mood with a long nap.
- Pamper yourself
A little bit of pampering can go a long way in terms of confidence and relaxation. So book an appointment with a hairdresser, esthetician, or masseuse. Or you can do an at-home spa day and include a face and body scrub.
- Exercise
If exercising works for you in order to get rid of stress, and why not, lose a few pounds, you can go for a run, do yoga or commit to a new workout, like the 30 Day Fitness Challenge Plan for example, that will boost your wellbeing. It is also important to make your health a priority.
- Treat yourself
Take yourself out and about! Buy yourself your favorite pastry at your favorite coffee place, purchase a new outfit or a pair of shoes, or buy yourself some jewelry.
- Go to the movies
When is the last time you went to the movies and saw something that isn’t G-rated? Head to the theatre and relax watching funny or romantic movies… and eat popcorn!
- Head to a bookstore
A bookstore is a great place to pick out a good book and simply read in a comfy chair or to even pick out a guide and plan your next holiday.
- Attend an online course
Attend an online course and take a break from the child-focused content. Plus, it is important to never stop studying as well as improving your CV, especially if you plan to go back to work.
- Do creative projects
Coming up with activities for and with your kids requires imagination, so take this time to focus on a creative project of your choosing. Try patchwork, polymer clay works, a puzzle, knitting, sewing or something else of your choosing.
- Hang out with your girlfriends
There is nothing like spending some with friends, so head out for a drink and/or a bite to eat with your girlfriends. Get your favorite dish and drink and chitchat with your besties, avoiding family issues and focusing on fun and light topics.
- Do something new
When in a routine, it can be extra fun to try something new! Start with a little activity like making a new friend, learning a new language, journaling, watching a new TV show, or attending a cooking class.
- Take a whole weekend off
If possible, taking a whole weekend off is a wonderful way to recharge. Take off to a nearby city, spend some time at a spa, go visit a friend or family member, or go wherever you have been wanting to!
At the end of the day, moms need to dedicate some time to themselves. And doing so is also a great way to regain energy and feel good… Happy mom, happy kids!
