Pop quiz… how are you doing with your New Year’s resolution? Personally I was having a really tough time with my annual “Get in shape this year” resolution. I was rocking it for less than a week when I fell off the wagon. This is typical and as usual involved some sort of deep fried food from the local pub followed by no exercise and late nights watching movies when I really should be sleeping. I ended up where I started or worse. I decided I needed to restart with a RVLution!
Here I am at the beginning of March and well into the MonaVie 90 Day RVLution! The RVLution is a complete weight management program developed by Mark MacDonald. Mark wrote the bestselling book Body Confidence and is the creator of the Venice Nutrition Program. You can buy the RVLution components separately or you can get what I have, a Start the RVLution Pack. I’m already on the way to achieving my goals and you can be too.
The first thing I did was open the RVLution booklet. This is a 48 page guide broken down into 11 sections and an appendix. The sections start with some basic knowledge on why diets fail and the importance of stabilizing your blood sugar. As you proceed through the booklet you’ll identify your body type and learn about your strengths and how to overcome your weaknesses. You’ll choose a goal type and then set individual goals. Next are a couple sections about your exercise, sleep and nutrition plans. Sleep you say? Yup, getting enough sleep is a key component of a healthy body composition. Don’t be overwhelmed. If you need to take a break while reading the booklet will understand and wait for you. After you finish the booklet you should login to the RVLution Online Program.
Included in your Start the RVLution Pack is a personal code that grants you access to the RVLution Online Program. On your first login you’ll answer some basic questions and then proceed to the checklist. Step 1 is watching a video where Mark MacDonald will introduce you to the program. Mark is a pretty motivational guy. After I watched the video I felt energized and ready to kick off my program.
The online program includes a meal planner where you check off your food preferences from a list and it generates a set of meals for you. I really like that each meal is categorized both by quality of the meal and whether it is quick or not. Some meals even include shortcuts that if followed make it a quick meal. Once you have your set of meals setup you can even get a grocery list. The meals were easy to prepare and delicious. Most involve just a few ingredients and all include a nutritional breakdown by meal component as well as a total for the meal.
Now that you have meal plans ready to go you can start using the Journal to keep track of your daily progress. The first thing I do each day is record a thought. Some days it is something inspiring that I saw on Pinterest, other times it is the brutally honest “I feel like crap today but I’m sticking with my plan because I will feel even worse if I am lazy”.
Eating meals off your plan helps keep this simple as you just select from a drop down list, note the time, energy before and after and appetite before and after and you are good to go. If you eat something that isn’t from your meal plan you can add a custom meal and you can also add extra food to a planned meal.
Tracking exercise is just as easy.
You select a type of exercise and detail the time spent and a few other things that vary based on the exercise choice. Adding a cardio workout event is really quick. Adding a strength training workout takes a little more time. One tool that really saves time is the ability to duplicate a previous day!
You’ll also track your weight and hopefully your body fat percentages. I use a scale that tracks my body fat, super easy! Here’s what my progress chart looks like so far.
I really like that the MonaVie RVLution works to help me maintain my lean body mass while losing body fat. After all, strong is the new skinny!
My favorite part of the RVLution are the 8 DVDs. Mark is super motivating and as you go through the DVD he explains what you are working. The videos feature exercise models at differing levels so you can be a beginner, enthusiast or athlete. The important part is to maintain intensity regardless of which version you do. Mark is a great coach, he’s definitely not a brow-beating trainer but instead a spirited and encouraging leader. These videos are a reasonable length, you can get it done in 30 minutes and you don’t really need any special equipment to follow along though as you get stronger you can incorporate resistance into the training.
Rather than looking back at a failed New Year’s resolution I’m looking at two weeks of solid commitment and loving it! The first several days were tough while I got used to eating consistently but the stabilized blood sugar leaves me feeling incredible. I have energy all day long! The exercise is hard but doable. This is not a diet, it is a RVLution and will be life-changing.

This sounds interesting. I haven’t heard of this plan before. I like how you start your day with a journal entry. It sets the tone for the whole day. Thanks for the review.
