This week, I had the chance to attend the Hollywood Premiere of Monsters University at the El Capitan Theater. I was so excited to get this sneak peek of the movie, but guess what?
Monsters University is…
That’s right, Monsters University is now in theaters and I’m definitely thinking it’s the must-see family film of the summer!
About Monsters University
Ever since college-bound Mike Wazowski (voice of Billy Crystal) was a little monster, he has dreamed of becoming a Scarer– and he knows better than anyone that the best Scarers come from Monsters University (MU). But during his first semester at MU, Mike’s plans are derailed when he crosses paths with hotshot James P. Sullivan, “Sulley” (voice of John Goodman), a natural-born Scarer. The pair’s out-of-control competitive spirit gets them both kicked out of the University’s elite Scare Program. To make matters worse, they realize they will have to work together, along with an odd bunch of misfit monsters, if they ever hope to make things right.
When I first heard there was going to be a sequel to Monsters Inc, I was so excited since it’s a favorite movie in our household. I couldn’t wait to find out what happened after the Scare Factory was turned into a Laugh Factory and if Sully ever got to see Boo again. Then, I found out that it wasn’t going to be a sequel, it was going to be a prequel about Mike and Sully in their college years. I wasn’t sure about it, but guess what? It REALLY works!
The movie opens with an adorable little Mike Wazowski whose dream is to become a Scarer. Fast forward a little bit and he’s stepping onto the campus of Monsters University to enroll into the School of Scaring!
The campus of Monsters University is simply gorgeous. The colors are bright and colorful and with Monsters University available in 3D, everything looks like it’s literally popping out!
When Mike first meets Sulley, they aren’t the best friends you see in Monsters University. Mike is a dedicated student who works hard while Sulley comes from a long line of natural Scarers. They definitely don’t get along with each other!
After the two get kicked out of Scare School, they have to team up together along with the crew of the Oozma Kappa fraternity to prove that they are the best Scarers on campus and to get back into the School of Scaring!
Throughout the movie, there’s lots of fun and laughs as the Monsters set out to prove themselves to Dean Hardscrabble. What I loved most about the movie {besides the laughs!} was all of the different messages that it sends to kids.
-“Don’t Judge a Book by its Cover”
– Teamwork
– Hard work will get you far in life {and school!}
– How to overcome obstacles
– Importance of Friendship
New Favorite Character
There are SO many fun new characters in Monsters University, but my favorite is definitely Art {voiced by Charlie Day}.
The ultimate free spirit, Art is a mysterious monster with a questionable background. By far the strangest member of the Oozma Kappas, Art bowls over the competition—sometimes literally—with his unique dexterity and wild-card ways. Nothing is scarier than the unpredictable, especially when it comes to this furry ball of bad.
Monsters University with Little Ones
If you’re wondering if you should take your little one to see Monsters University, the answer is yes! I would recommend having them watch Monsters Inc. first so they can get to know Mike and Sully and see that they really aren’t bad or scary Monsters!
Monsters University is in theaters NOW – what are you waiting for?! Go get your scream on!

I loved the movie…I probably was one of the loudest laughers in the theater.
I am such a big fan of Monsters Inc. – It’s not always easy to find movies with a good message. And we just threw a little Monsters U kick off party the other day to build even more excitement before we take the kids to see this next week! Cannot WAIT – and your post here just makes me even more excited 🙂
Fabulous review and I totally agree – it’s the must see movie of the summer!
I can not wait to take my kids to see it! Maybe this next year we will make it 🙂
We are going to take our son to see this tomorrow I can’t wait. Monsters Inc is one of my favorite kids movies.
I’m planning on taking my family to see this movie tonight or tomorrow (free popcorn)
We seen Monsters University last weekend and WE LOVED IT! Our favorite new character is squishy – very cute and funny family movie – the animation is spectacular!

It makes no sense for the Administration to threaten Iran when we’re
so vulnerable to Iranian retaliation. With the heavy amount of competition in the first person shooter market
in mind, it is quite likely that the genius masterminds over at Valve have something up their sleeves to one up the rest of the industry.
