I feel this overwhelming urge to talk about my cousin Elizabeth and share her wonderful story with you.
My cousin Elizabeth is a gorgeous, funny and sweet 15 year old girl. She has a great group of friends, loves spending time with Hayden and so much more.
5 years ago, when she was 10 years old, she underwent brain surgery and had a “baseball sized” tumor removed.
She was then diagnosed with Anaplastic Ependymoma cancer.
This unbelievably strong little girl went through focused radiation for six weeks and countless doctor’s visits.
The doctors, nurses and staff at the hospital were amazing. They were such a strong support system for my cousin and her family.
Elizabeth and her family became very involved with Camp Rainbow and Friends of Kids With Cancer, even participating in a Fashion Show and getting a dog named Poky!
In 2006, Elizabeth and her family became involved in the creation of “Elizabeth’s Corner”, a family friendly waiting room at the Siteman Cancer Center.
In 2006, the summer marking her 1 year since diagnosis, thanks to her parents and a Program Director of a radio station in Alabama, she was able to attend a Rascal Flatts concert and meet the band backstage and they were wonderful. Rascal Flatts really helped her get though her treatments, as she listened to them while receiving radiation.
Now, 5 years later Elizabeth just had her 5 year checkup and I am so happy to share that her MRI results are clean!
You can read more about Elizabeth’s amazing story at her CaringBridge Page, which my Uncle Pat writes.
I’m just so happy that my heart is bursting and I wanted to share the news. Elizabeth is such a sweet, brave girl and we love her so much.
I just got chills! How amazing and fantastic news!
