My son’s school has an awesome Makerspace in their library. Whenever it was library day, my son would come home with stories of what they did that day. It was by far his favorite time at school! He was always talking about this robot named Dash and even put it on his Christmas list last year. When we partnered with Best Buy to have our own very Dash Robot at home, I knew he was going to be so excited!
My son is growing up in a whole new world – a world full of technology. He will never have to wait for dial up internet or own a flip phone. Now, he’s got his very own robot that can follow voice commands, sing and dance for him. But what I love about it is that he’s also have a fun and educational experience too!
Dash is a REAL robot, just for kids! It’s charged and ready to play right out of the box! After downloading the Wonder app, we opened the box and he rolled right out. What I love about Dash is the whole family can play with him. While my son is at school, my 3 year old twins love playing with him (they call him Dashy Dash) and I’ve even caught myself playing with him with no kids around – hey, I wanted a turn!
There are 5 apps that work with Dash the robot. For all ages, there’s Go, Path and Xylo. All three of my kids love the Path app. As young as 3, they can draw a path on the iPad and Dash will follow it. Wait, are my kids CODING?! For ages 8 and up, there’s Wonder and Blockly. My son mainly uses the Wonder app which is picture-based coding to create detailed behaviors for Dash. The Bockly app introduces even more advanced coding and you can create even more new behaviors with Dash!
I love that Dash is keeping my son engaged in learning. Of course, technology is the way of the future and I definitely believe it could be so important to learn how to code. Dash is making that fun and my 8 year old is learning robotics and math without even knowing it. He loves creating different paths for Dash in his room and I love that I can record different sayings for Dash to say like clean your room! Your kid will love Dash so much once they start using it – there’s even a robotics club at my son’s school where they use Dash so Hayden is thrilled to have his very own.
The Dash robot by Wonder Workshop is available at Best Buy for $149. It includes Dash, a charging cord, 2 building brick connectors and a getting started guide. You can download the apps on to your iPad and there’s even more accessories available for purchase too.
If you’re looking to invest into an educational toy, look no further than Dash! I guarantee the whole family will be playing with him!
