This Christmas, one of my main goals is to give my kids non-electronic presents. They already have an iPod and Kindle, and that’s more than enough. Instead, I’m trying to focus on presents that will get them away from the screens, using their imaginations, moving, and learning. One of my favorite non-electronic gifts is a board game.
Board games are a ton of fun, but they also help kids learn to take turns and are the perfect opportunity to practice good sportsmanship and losing gracefully. It’s always a bonus when games can reinforce reading, math, and logic skills, too.
Now that my son is four, it’s easier to find games the entire family can play together and to find game he and his sister (6) can play alone. Last Easter, the Easter Bunny delivered some great match the cards games from Wonderforge, and we’re excited for Santa to bring them three new games this Christmas.
Wonderforge has a large selection of great board games for a variety of age ranges and interests. From matching games to role player games, there really is something for everyone.
Here are three games I can’t wait to see the kids unwrap this Christmas:
1. Frozen Surprise Slides: While we haven’t been watching Frozen as much anymore (thank goodness!), my kids are still gaga for anything Anna, Elsa, or Olaf. The game has a similar format of Chutes and Ladders, but this version features Frozen fun. It’s recommended for ages three and up, which is spot-on. If your child can recognize colors and take turns, they’ll be able to play this game. Frozen Surprise Slides is a Target exclusive and retails for $11.99. Expect this game to go fast on Black Friday!
2. Disney Junior Super Stretchy Game: This is another great Disney take on a classic game format. This time, Disney Junior friends are along for the ride as your kids try to stretch, bend, and twist their bodies to see how many shapes they can touch. This game is great for enhancing gross motor skills, color and shape recognition, teamwork, and self-confidence. I am all for a game that gets kids up and moving around and I know this is going to be our go-to game on days where we are snowed in or it’s too cold to go outside. And I already know they’ll be bringing the game outside to play in the yard with their friends this spring and summer. At a retail price of $16.99, this game is a great value.
3. Pictopia: The Disney Edition: Ok, so maybe I’m a bit more excited about this one than I should let on, but I can’t help it. I know my daughter is going to flip over this game. It’s a little advanced for my son to play on his own, but we can easily play in teams so my husband or I can help him play. After all, he probably knows more about DisneyXD shows than I do! The game has over 100 questions, so we will be able to go through a few games without repeating questions. I hope they add an expansion pack for extra trivia cards in a few years because I know we’ll want to keep playing. Pictopia: The Disney Edition retails for $19.99.
Check out the other great games available from Wonderforge and let me know what game you hope to give your child (or yourself, I won’t judge!) this holiday season.
