Thanks to modern inventions and innovations, there are items available to make everything from changing a diaper to getting your baby to sleep a lot easier. Yet with so many items out there to purchase, deciding on which things to buy and which are truly unnecessary is a challenge. That’s why you’ll find this list of practical baby accessories helpful when creating your wishlist.
Crib
Lots of new parents add bassinets to their baby shower list but they outlive their purpose quickly. Newborns grow fairly quickly and it won’t be long before your little one has outgrown the bassinet. Not to mention, many parents end up co-sleeping with their newborns for the first few months to try and get more sleep. So, the basinet just sits in the corner looking nice.
A practical baby accessory to add to the list would be a crib. A crib can be used until the baby is at least a year or two of age. Some crib designs even transition into a toddler bed giving you a few more years of use out of it.
Diaper Bag
Diaper bags are an essential baby accessory to have. Traveling with a baby in tow means having everything both of you need at your disposal. While some might argue that an oversized bag would suffice, diaper bags have several compartments to keep everything in its place. They have large diaper bags for longer trips and mini diaper bags with comfortable straps so parents can carry it on their backs and still have both their hands free to tend to their baby.
Car Seat
Well, getting around is impossible without a safe car seat for your baby. As your baby will grow like a weed, it is more economically wise to purchase a car seat that adjusts as your baby grows. This way you don’t have to continue to purchase them down the road.
Stroller
Whether taking a jog through the park for some exercise or shopping at a mall, trying to do this while carrying the baby around is a real pain. Strollers make it easier for mom and dad to move around without being weighed down by the baby. Again, your baby will continue to grow so it’s more practical to get a stroller that adjusts accordingly.
Baby Carrier
Baby carriers are a practical product for parents to have on hand. As you already know (or will soon discover), trying to get things done around the house with an infant in your arms is nearly impossible. Baby carriers allow you to swaddle, cradle, or hold your child close to you while you use your hands to take care of business.
Breast Pump Kit
You may have your heart set on feeding your newborn straight from the breast for the first few months, but having a breast pump kit on hand makes life a lot easier. Pumping is a great way for moms to allow dads to connect with their little ones during feedings. It will also be necessary once you’ve planned on returning to work.
Baby Monitor
Baby monitors are lifesavers for parents. They allow you to keep an eye on your little one when you’re not in the room with them. This device is more for peace of mind than anything. They even have devices that come with tiny socks to put on the baby’s feet that allow you to keep track of their oxygen levels and heart rate as they sleep!
Portable Changing Pad
Ever try changing a diaper in the car or in the bathroom stall? It can be a real pain in the neck. You’re trying to keep your baby from being exposed to the germs while you wrestle them to get their diaper changed. They have portable changing pads that not only hold diapering supplies like pampers and wipes but that come with extra padding, straps, and a toy bar attached so that baby is comfortable, stationary, and entertained while you get them cleaned up.
There are a lot of gadgets, devices, and equipment out there for babies. All of it is really cute and seems idealistic at the time, but what most parents come to find is that a lot of it ends up getting wasted. Beyond getting essentials like diapers, bottles, wipes, formula, and pacifiers, you can’t go wrong by adding these simple but practical baby items to your wishlist.
