Last month we announced our BIG NEWS for the Sippy Cup Family! We are expecting twins! I feel like we are still processing it, but we couldn’t be more excited!
I feel like we have known that I am pregnant forever – we found out back in June and then found out about the twins when I was only 8 weeks along! I can’t wait to share this incredible journey with you all!
How Far Along:
13 weeks, 3 Days! I’ll be glad to be out of the first trimester! I feel like I’m not far along at all, but then think to myself that the babies could be here in just 5.5 months!
Total Weight Gain:
Down 2 pounds – I was down about 9 pounds but in the last 2 weeks I have gained about 7 pounds back. I’m still down 2 pounds from my pre-pregnancy weight from being so sick the last 3 months!
How Big Are The Babies?
Week 13 marks a milestone for your baby-to-be. Developmentally speaking she’s no longer an embryo, but a fetus. She’s looking—and acting—more and more like a baby every day. She appears to be resting because her eyelids have formed and are fused together, but her arms and legs move and twitch (although you probably can’t feel it … yet). She can suck her thumb, too.
Your baby is about the size of a egg! She’s growing heavier at around .5 to .8 ounces and is getting longer at about 3 inches long (crown to rump). (Via Baby Zone)
Food Cravings:
Nothing really. It’s hard to go grocery shopping because if something sounds good at that instant, it’s not good to me a few days later. I’ve mostly been snacking and eating small meals. The one thing I’ve consistently been craving though is beef.
Food Aversions:
Again, nothing in particular. For some reason, I get really sick when I open my fridge so I grab what I want really quickly!
Symptoms:
– Nausea: I’m sure we all ask why do they call it morning sickness? I’ve been getting sick in the morning, afternoon and evening! The worst was when picking Hayden up from preschool last week and I got sick in the parking lot – I just couldn’t stop myself!
– Exhaustion: I’m just SO tired! Out of a whole week, I maybe have 2 days where I have a good amount of energy to get some things done. Otherwise, I’m just wanting to nap all the time!
– Heartburn: I think I’m going through about a container of TUMS a week. The heartburn is just always so bad! What’s the old wives tale say on that? Girls?
– Swollen Feet: Last pregnancy, my feet weren’t swollen until the last trimester! Lately, they have been swollen even earlier. I did just read that it can happen earlier with twins.
My OB told me that my symptoms are probably worse because of the twins and I’ve got double the hormones running through me. I’m hoping everything will calm down in the 2nd trimester!
Ultrasounds:
We have been able to see the babies quite a bit and have had 4 ultrasounds since we found out we were having twins! Every time we see them on the screen it’s just so exciting! We had our NT Scan last week and everything looked great! Baby A was not cooperative at all but Baby B was just relaxing and sucking its thumb.
How is Hayden Reacting?
Hayden is SO excited about the thought of becoming a big brother and keeps saying the babies are his best friends. I know that he quite doesn’t understand what is going on (except that there are TWO babies living in Mommy’s belly) and it will be such a shock when they finally get here! He loves looking at the ultrasound pictures and has named the babies “Pudding 1 and Pudding 2”!
This Week, We’re Talking About…
I was able to nurse Hayden and I really enjoyed it. I am going to attempt to nurse the twins also so I’m looking into classes near me that can give information on nursing twins. Heath and I have also been talking about attempting to cloth diaper the twins. We never attempted this with Hayden, but I like the thought of saving money AND helping the environment. This is a whole new area for me so I have researching a lot! If you have any advice, I’d love to hear it!
Next Appointment:
My next appointment is when I’m 16 weeks. We will most likely be going to get an ultrasound again. Even though my OB has one in her office she said that from now on we will be getting our scans in the Maternal Fetal Center which just has better equipment!
I will also be taking my 1 Hour Glucose Test at 16 weeks – even if it’s normal, she wants me to repeat it later on in the pregnancy! UGH!
Here’s my 13 week picture – even though I’m already overweight, I feel like my bump is starting to pop a lot more. With twin pregnancies, my OB said it’s common to measure 4-6 weeks ahead the whole time. So right now my uterus is measuring about 17 weeks!
That’s it for now, I can wait to share more with you – I’ll probably do another update at 16 weeks!
You look so cute!!
Aw, thanks so much! 😉
Yay! You look fantastic! I am loving that Hayden has already named the twins Pudding 1 and Pudding 2. So cute! Hope this second trimester is the beginning of you feeling better! 🙂
Thank you so much – I love the names too, LOL!
Congratulations! Wow twins 🙂 the only thing I have heard about heartburn is the baby is supposed to be born with lots of hair. BUT with my first I was breathing fire all of the time and he was bald until he was like 15 months old haha.
That’s what I have been reading – lots of hair! But that is too funny, so I’m sure it’s not true! :-p
Yay! You look adorable, of course! I’m so excited to get to follow your updates for the next 5.5 months!
Also, I’m all for considering Pudding 1 and Pudding 2 as permanent names, they’re pretty cute! 😉
Haha, me too!
Congrats!! So exciting. I had horrible heartburn with both of my pregnancies and both of them were BOYS! So don’t know if that is true or not but hey you got a 50% chance at being right. 🙂 Maybe more than 50% with twins
Haha, so true! Maybe one of each?
You look great! Oh, how I hope your symptoms give you a break in a couple weeks when the second trimester hits. You need to rest up!
Hmm… I never could keep track of all those wives’ tales, but I didn’t have heartburn until my second. She was a girl AND born with a full head of hair. 🙂
Add another vote to the pile for Pudding 1 and Pudding 2 as permanent names. Adorable!
Thanks so much Alissa – I am really hoping I’ll feel better for the next few months!
Too funny – everyone loves Pudding 1 and 2! Better than Thing 1 and Thing 2, I guess?
aww you are looking great Mama. I love that Hayden calls them pudding 1 and pudding 2. soo cute!
Thank you so much Amber!
