I participated in this program on behalf of The Fred Rogers Company and The Motherhood. All opinions are my own.
It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood, won’t you be my neighbor? I have such fond memories of watching Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood as a child. They just don’t make shows like that anymore…or do they?
I was so excited when I first heard about the concept of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood. I knew that it would be a quality show for my children that they would be able to learn from. Since my twins were born in February, I have to admit that I’ve been putting on the TV more for my son – I love that when he watches Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood on PBS or Netflix that the show is about something that he has experienced in life or will probably soon.
I had the chance to participate in one of the most interesting conference calls to date. Last week, I talked with Angela Santomero, Creator and Executive Producer for Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood, Roberta Schomburg, PhD, Child Development Consultant for The Fred Rogers Company and Chris Loggins, Production Manager for The Fred Rogers Company. They all explained to us how it was very important to the producers to maintain the nostalgia from the original series as they reimagined it for today’s audience! For example, both Mister Rogers and Daniel Tiger open their show while they put on their signature red sweaters and shoes.
About Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood
Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood first premiered on PBS in September of 2012. We were a little late to the game because we just started watching the show this year! Since the shoe premiered, it’s been among the Top 10 highest rated programs for preschoolers and among the Top 5 highest rated programs among Moms – and I can see why!
Each episode is focused on a theme that will apply to your child’s life. In fact, before each show, the producers will take the script in to a preschool audience of 2-4 year olds to make sure they understand and grasp the concepts and stories.
Your child is nervous about the first day of school? Check out “Daniel Visits School”.
Do you have a child who gets mad and needs to learn how to express their feelings? {Raises hand!} Watch “Daniel Gets Mad” and “Katerina Gets Mad”.
Is your child not wanting to try new foods? Show them how Daniel does in “Daniel Tries a New Food”.
There’s so many more episodes to watch with your child to help them relate to – you’ll want to check them all out!
Pretend Play with Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood Toys
Whenever someone at my son’s preschool or his elementary school would ask what my son’s greatest strength was, I always immediately answered “his imagination”. Hayden has a HUGE imagination and I think a lot of that has to do with all of the toys that he plays with.
Pretending is one of the first steps of symbolic thinking which is critical to reading and writing skills and it reaches its peak during the preschool years. Children use play to help make sense of the world or to test out scenarios. Research shows that children make strong connections to characters on TV, trusting, listening and learning from those characters – and I’ve definitely seen that with my son! There’s many times that he watches Daniel Tiger and then I’ll see him acting out scenes with his figures.
Fred Rogers said, “In all things we do, we should think of the children first. How can we support growth and development?
That’s why I love Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood Toys, . Each toy was made to inspire creativity and imagination while allowing open-ended play.
Toys range from high quality Neighborhood Plush Dolls, Neighborhood Friends Figures, the famous Neighborhood Red Trolley, Neighborhood All-in-One Playset and a 3-in-1 Playset.
All of these toys are fantastic! My son received Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood Red Trolley which comes with a Daniel Tiger figure and also the Daniel Tiger Plush! He spent so long make believing as he played with the toys. The toys are such good quality and I foresee these being a huge hit this Holiday season!

So sweet – and yes – that will bring back some good memories of childhood.
I have never heard of Daniel Tiger’s Nieghborhood when I read the first few lines I said hmm sounds like Mister Rogers then I saw the picture of the red sweater. My daughter probably has heard of this show I am not up on the shows that are around these days for kids.
It’s truly wonderful to see that the legacy of Mister Rogers is still going strong. This is the first time I’ve heard about these new toys, they look awesome. I have a lot of little kiddos on my holiday list this year, these will be great!
Would love that for my daughter.
Wow – even the stop light, trolley and train track into the wall are the same… I hope he has a fish tank in his kitchen! 🙂
Daniel Tigers is super cute! Love that he puts on a little red sweater like Mr. Rogers!!
I hadn’t heard of Daniel Tigers before reading your post… but I’m definitely going to look into getting some for my niece! I think she’ll love these when she’s old enough to play with them!
They look awesome! I hope this show does half as well as Mr Rogers!
Daniel Tiger toys look great for pre-schoolers. I am going to send this to my niece who has young children, I know they would enjoy Daniel.
I just want Mr Rogers and Mr Dressup back!
It is great to give kids toys based on favorite television shows because their imaginations have a place to start inventing fun.
My kids are obviously past this age, but the toys are exactly the kind of thing I would have bought. I am HUGE into encouraging imagination and creativity. Nothing is better than pretend.
We have not watched this show but I am happy to learn it’s on Netflix. I will have to search for it and expose my 3 year old to it. Oh, and the neighborhood trolley toy really brings back Mr. Rogers memories!
I remember watching Mister Rogers Neighborhood when I was younger and I’m so glad that they’ve found a way to bring that back to a younger generation. Also, those toys are super cute.
I love this show and my son does too. It brings back so many great memories. I used to watch mr Rogers neighborhood everyday right after Sesame Street!
My son loved Daniel Tiger when it first began he is getting older though so he is now into super heros. However I really think he’ enjoy playing with the playset in bottom pic.
I loved Mister Rogers! I have never heard of Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood but can’t wait to check it out for my baby girl. She’s still young for TV, but I am so happy to see wonderful programming available for her when she gets a little older.
I’ve watched this show with my daughter. It’s really cute!
