Walgreens has spent the last year trying to negotiate with Express Scripts for a new contract so they can continue to be a part of its pharmacy provider network. The negotiation was unsuccessful and the contract between Walgreens and Express Script expired.
This situation is forcing customers to go elsewhere to fill their prescriptions. Pharmacy patients who are covered by an Express Scripts plan are not only having to change pharmacists, but also to drive farther and not even see their costs going down.
Walgreens is working hard for their customers by offering a discount on the annual membership for the Walgreens Prescription Savings Club. Through January, individuals can join the program for only $5 and families can join for $10. Members will receive savings on over 8,000 brand name medications and on all generic medications. Annual membership is normally $20 for individuals and $35 for families.
Walgreens offers competitive pricing, discounts with generic drugs and bigger discounts for 90 day supplies of medication, instead of three 30 day refills. You can also get discounts on flu shots, pet prescriptions and more. Walgreens also values being your community pharmacy. They are there for everything from when you leave the emergency room at 3am and need to fill your prescription or need to get in for a flu shot.

We lost our prescription coverage at Walgreens and it really sucks. I hate finding a new pharmacy. If their plan actually saved us money, I’d do it, but with Tricare, it doesn’t. 🙁 I’m going to miss going there.
Ugh! See, I have read that it is really affecting military families too! it’s so unfortunate!
