“Space Dogs“, by Phase 4 Films, is a movie about the first two dogs in outer space. It is based on the true story of Belka and Strelka, two Russian dogs sent into space in the 1960’s aboard Sputnik 5. Belka is a stray mutt and Strelka is a circus dog. They meet when Strelka’s rocket-riding circus act goes awry and she ends up launching out of the circus and into Belka’s neighborhood. Belka and Strelka, along with Belka’s rat friend Venya get caught by a man and put aboard a train bound for the Soviet space training program. The rest of the movie follows the first canine cosmonauts into space and back to earth.
Space Dogs is a good family fun movie. I liked the good message about teamwork, friendship and hard work. The animation was vivid and my kids and I were completely entertained for the full movie. I would highly recommend Space Dogs for any family movie night!
You can watch Space Dogs at Amazon Instant Video or you can buy a DVD. Space Dogs retails for $24.99.
