This Strawberry Shortcake in a Jar Recipe is the perfect treat for summer!
Summer is almost here and I am seeing those wonderful bright red, delicious strawberries that almost melt in your mouth pop up all over the growers market and the grocery stores! I’ve been wanting to bring the kids strawberry picking and this Strawberry Shortcake in a Jar recipe will be the first thing we make!
Layer the strawberries, freshly made whipped cream, Grandma’s shortcake (recipe following) into cute little mason jars and you have a pretty and yummy outdoor snack – Strawberry Shortcake in a Jar!
Strawberry Shortcake in a Jar Recipe
Grandma’s Perfect Shortcake Recipe:
- 2 cups all purpose flour
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons shortening
- About 3/4 cup half & half
Combine flour, baking powder, salt and sugar in a large mixing bowl. Using pastry cutter or paddle attachment cut in both butter and shortening until crumbly. Add half & half in small amounts until dough is about the consistency of mayonnaise. Scoop into baking dish. Bake for 15 minutes at 450 degrees or until a golden brown. Cool and then cut into 3/4″ cubes to use in your mason jars of Strawberry Shortcake.
These little treats are so fun to serve up for summer parties or make ahead to give your kids a sweet treat! I love that the small jars give it a perfect portion size too. It’s also an easy enough recipe that you can get the kids in the kitchen with you to help make it.
