Earlier this year, I started and completed the Listerine 21-Day Challenge. It was right when I was in the middle of really focusing on my health, where I was watching what I ate and exercising daily. Taking care of my oral health was just one more step for taking care of myself health-wise. While I got off track with taking care of myself with weight and exercise, I never failed to take care of my oral health since then and it’s now one thing I can’t forget!
It used to be that I thought that I just had to brush my teeth once, maybe twice a day and that was good enough. After all, that is what I did growing up. But the more I read, the more I learned that is definitely not enough. I’m not alone – more than 8 in 10 people believe they have a healthy mouth (83%), the truth is that nearly all Americans suffer from some form of oral disease. Many of the oral care issues that people experience can be prevented, and adding LISTERINE® as part of a twice-daily oral care routine can help ensure your mouth is always on your side.
I want to set a good example for my kids so that they take good care of their oral health from the beginning and that includes a few things. At 2 years old, the girls just had their first visit to the dentist and both of them plus my 7 year old make regular visits along with my husband and I. At home, we use LISTERINE® products several times a day. Brushing your teeth alone misses 75% of your mouth, leaving millions of germs behind. Left untreated, these germs can lead to oral care issues such as plaque and gingivitis! So my husband, son and I use the mouthwash twice a day {sometimes more!} and we also use the toothpaste and floss. I even keep the floss in my bathroom and my purse!
I think some of the results of a recent survey done by the LISTERINE® Brand and GFK are interesting! I know that whenever I have a clean mouth, I actually FEEL healthier.
- More than 6 in 10 assume that people with oral health issues have other health issues (66%).
- More than 8 in 10 Americans feel oral health issues are embarrassing (85%), and more than 9 in 10 say that they feel better overall when their mouth feels clean (93%).
- 3 in 4 Americans say the state of their mouth determines how they look and feel (77%), nearly as much as their weight (78%).
To convince you even more to take care of your oral health, check out these facts!
- Nearly half (47.2%) of American adults over the age of 30 suffer from gum disease. In adults 65 and over, prevalence rates increase to 70%.iii
- Nearly all American adults over the age of 20 have had cavities at some point in their lives (91%) and one in four have untreated cavities (27%).2
- About half of all Americans aged 20–64 have lost a tooth due to oral disease.

Listerine is essential for good dental hygene.
I actually use Listerine every night before bed after I brush my teeth. I don’t feel totally clean if I don’t use it!
I make sure that we all take really good care of our teeth and we like the Listerine mouthwash because it really does give such a clean feeling!
I like Listerine mouthwash. I have been using it for years.
We love Listerine! It definitely helps my our gums healthy.
I make sure we brush twice a day and use floss daily but I admit we don’t use mouth wash daily, I need to make sure it’s part of our daily routine.
