I’ve done the gym thing before. I’ve joined the big gyms multiple times and walked in, not knowing what to do and selecting to just walk on a treadmill for 30 minutes – ignoring the weights and not really knowing what will work for my body. And I always end up giving up because I don’t have that motivation or encouragement. I know, I know, you have to be your own motivation. But it helps when someone is there helping along the way. That’s why I am so excited to have found Forward Fitness in St. Louis and to start taking care of ME.
Drop 2 Sizes Challenge at Forward Fitness
Forward Fitness hosts a Drop 2 Sizes Challenge and I was invited to try the latest one that started on September 17th. This challenge is more than just working out. The team at Forward Fitness is with you every step of the way. We had a kickoff meeting where we talked about the challenge and they explained it all to us. Then that first week, we had an accountability meeting and tried on a pair of jeans that didn’t fit. If we followed this challenge though, we would be able to fit into those jeans at the end of 8 weeks.
I met with Suzanne, their dietitian for my first accountability meeting and to try on my jeans. Talking to her about WHY I wanted to lose weight and get fit got me pretty emotional – I never expected to start a workout challenge crying! But from the very start, I felt encouraged by the team at Forward Fitness.
When you walk into Forward Fitness, there are no machines. The trainers at Forward Fitness wrote a workout program specifically for ME. As part of the challenge, I’ve been doing 2 semi-private training sessions and 2 FIT Camp classes a week. I didn’t think I was going to be able to do it – but I’m doing it and I’m LOVING it. All of the trainers are motivating and encouraging. They celebrate when I move up on weights (um, who would have EVER thought I’d be dead-lifting close to 80 pounds?) and they make sure that I’m doing the exercise in good form.
Each time I leave Forward Fitness, I’m dripping with sweat but I’ve got a smile on my face. I have so much more energy after the workouts (even if I’m moaning about how sore I am) and I’m feeling so much better about myself. But it’s not just the workouts, remember? I’ve got my Accountability Journal where I record everything I eat, how I feel before I eat, how much water I drink, my exercises and even what I’ve done to destress that day and what I’m grateful for. I’m taking care of ALL of me.
Forward Fitness is like a family. There are people there of all ages and all abilities. Everyone has greeted me with a smile and everyone is friendly, motivating and encouraging. Everyone that works out there tells me they are like a family and I can see why. Suzanne is there for when I have questions about my diet or if I’m worried how I’ll get through an event filled with junk food. The other trainers are there for me to show me how to make sure I don’t get hurt doing an exercise or to help get a knot out of my back.
The halfway point of the Drop 2 Sizes Challenge is coming up on Monday. Then, I’ll try on my jeans and see how they fit. I’m not sure how much weight or inches I’ve lost (they don’t want you to weigh yourself!) and I’m eager to see what 4 weeks has done for me. I know I’ve lost something as my clothes are feeling looser and I’m just feeling better as I’m eating better and being active! If you’re following me over on Instagram, you’ve seen my journey a bit so far. I’ll make sure to update over here after I try on my jeans next week and at the end of the challenge too!
