Whether for a work colleague, friend, daughter or sister-in-law, we all love to head out to the shops to look for the perfect gift for a new baby. But finding that perfect gift can be a little difficult at times. With so many gift options to choose from, it pays to have some idea of what type of gift you would like to give at the baby shower. A gift can be as expensive or as inexpensive as you like and can be as large or small as you like. One of the best ways to make your present unique is to search out some unique party supply decorations.
A Personalised Gift
If the parents have already revealed whether they are having a boy or a girl, and maybe they have even chosen a name, you’ll have no trouble choosing a personalised gift. However, even if you aren’t sure of the baby’s sex, you can give a gift certificate for a personalised item to be gifted after the baby’s birth.
You may like to give a blanket or clothing with the baby’s name on it. A lovely photo frame engraved with baby’s name and birth date is something they will treasure as they grow older. Almost anything available for babies can be personalised including clothing, bath toys, nappy bags and carriers. You might also consider giving the parents a baby book with the newborn’s name monogrammed on the cover.
Something Practical
The most common baby shower gifts are practical items. Bottles, nappies, baby baths, clothing, bibs, bedding, and blankets are all things mum-to-be will need. Although a practical gift may seem a little boring, you can rest assured that it will be greatly appreciated and will see lots of use over the coming months. If you want your practical gift to stand out and be memorable, then you can always wrap it in an eye-catching way. Head to your local party supplies store and check out the great range of decorations available.
Educational Gifts
Today, many companies offer educational toys for babies and children. Educational baby books and DVDs are handy for mum, even from the time baby is only a few months old. Music CDs are also a great baby shower gift idea. You can choose soothing music to put baby to sleep, or more lively nursery rhymes and songs baby will enjoy when he or she is a little bit older. Small rattles and soft toys baby can easily grasp are a good option, and so are brightly coloured, soft toys that have different textured fabrics and make various rustling or squeaking noises. Any toy safe for baby to put into his or her mouth is ideal.
Go for a Unique Gift
Unique gifts are always appreciated by the future parents. Handmade toys or hand-knitted booties and a matching hat can make for a lovely gift. You can always give a gift basket filled with a range of baby items. Baby cakes, made from nappies or clothing arranged to look like a cake, are a unique idea. You can buy these pre-made or get creative and arrange your own design. Socks arranged in a flower bunch, muslin wraps and blankets in the shape of a tiered cake and decorated with toys and toiletries make for a unique and memorable baby shower gift.
A Gift for the Parents-to-Be
We all know that a baby shower tends to focus more on the baby than the future mum and dad, and the majority of gifts often reflect this. If you’re looking for an original baby shower gift idea, why not give a gift to the soon-to-be parents? It may be a restaurant voucher or movie tickets or a spa treatment for mum. You may even like to give a yummy food hamper filled with lots of goodies. Although baby won’t be able to use these things, mum- and dad-to-be will certainly appreciate the thoughtfulness of your gift.

My mom said to me that traditionally In the Jewish religion it is bad luck to,have a baby shower! I don’t fall for all those superstitions and take any opportunity I have to walk under ladders and open umbrellas indoors. So we probably won’t throw a family one for my sister, but when “it” arrives I would think she would want something personalized, and a stroller, crib, diapers!

A great gift idea I just found out about is one of those diaper towers. It’s very creative and yet, still heart-warming because it shows you’ve spent time making it by yourself. You can add other items so that the tower looks more fuller. These are equally great ideas!

Love the ideas! I use to take a baby bath tub and make into a sailboat with baby wrapping paper then fill with all kinds of things for baby that a parent would need.

these are all great ideas! I think a diaper cake can really include many of the elements you mentioned in your post, plus they are super cute.
