Ever since I was a little girl, I knew I wanted to be a mother. I’m so thankful to have met a partner who wanted kids and wanted them early on in our marriage as I still wanted to be fairly young when I had my children. When I first had my son eight years ago, I never imagined the overwhelming love I would have for him! I once read a quote from Elizabeth Stone that said:
“Making the decision to have a child – it is momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.”
How true is that? I never imagined that so many different emotions could overcome me as a parent – the love, joy, fear, pride and so much more. And when I found out that I was pregnant with twins when my son was only 5 years old, I was torn between happiness and fear – how would my heart open to love two more children when it was so completely full loving my son? I had nights where I stayed up late worrying about this but the answer was simple – your heart completely expands to love more than one child. Each of my children have an equal spot in my heart and it’s hard to describe how you just completely love each one of them. The gift of Motherhood is the best gift that I have received in my life.
Three women. Three stories. This Mother’s Day, let go of your fears. Embrace the ones you love.
