We all love going to the movies, but there is a comfort in having a movie night from home that can’t be beat. Maybe you don’t want to drive through the rain and snow to get to the theater, or perhaps you need to stay home after undergoing surgery—such as the kind offered at Northwest Surgery Center—or maybe you just don’t feel like paying $20 for popcorn.
Whatever the reason may be, watching movies from home has never been easier. There are numerous streaming services that give you a near limitless amount of titles to choose from. Some, like Disney+, even give viewers the option to watch theatrical releases from their couch on day one! If you’ve got kids at home, this is a great option, as many Disney titles can be enjoyed by all ages. Need a few recommendations? Here are some of the latest movies to hit the streaming service that the whole family will love.
Luca
Luca is a charming and simple movie from Pixar Studios which tells the tale of a young sea monster who assumes human form while on land. The character interactions drive much of the plot, and watching them interact with one another while they discover new and exciting things on land is very entertaining. Once again, Pixar sets the standard for modern animation, but this time around the design has taken on less of a ‘realistic’ approach in favor of rounded, softer shapes. This is a movie that parents will be able to get into and one that children will adore.
Encanto
Disney smashes another one out of the park with the 60th film to come out of the studio, Encanto. The movie gives us a magical family known as the madrigals, who each possess a different ability, except for the main character, Mirabel, who has no abilities. When she discovers that their family home is in danger she begins to investigate, and chaos ensues. The film’s animation is gorgeous, from the scenery to the characters’ facial expressions, but the music is what blows us away. There are several catchy songs throughout the film, one of which—We Don’t Talk About Bruno—landing a spot on the Billboard’s Top 100 list; good luck getting it out of your head once you hear it.
Turning Red
As the latest film to come out of Pixar—as recently as March 11—Turning Red follows a thirteen-year-old girl named Meilin Lee as she deals with the struggles of being a teenager, plus her ability to turn into a giant red panda. The movie tackles puberty and the relationship between a mother and daughter, which many parents watching will likely be able to relate with. There is some unique animation used within the character designs that give it a more cartoony feel than some of the earlier Pixar films, but that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Will this be your favorite Disney Pixar film? Maybe, maybe not, but it is most certainly worth a watch.
Fun for the Whole Family
The great thing about these films is the fact that they can be enjoyed by kids and adults alike. While the target audience is most certainly aimed towards children, there are several themes and relatable instances that parents will also appreciate. We can’t wait to see what comes to the streaming platform next!
