Becoming a parent for the first time can be a rollercoaster ride that you wanted so badly, but one that also terrifies you. If you’re feeling overwhelmed while raising your firstborn, don’t worry, it’s a common sentiment among all rookie moms and dads. The journey to parenting for the first time is not always magical and that’s okay. There’s no clear-set guide to do this without any slip-ups, which is why we’re bringing you our best tips for new moms in 2022. These will not only give you a realistic picture of parenting but also show you where you may need to ease up a bit.
- Children don’t always eat healthily and that’s okay: Making children eat their greens and veggies doesn’t always work, and you don’t have to push them for it. Sometimes, they eat their broccoli well, and the others, they’re eating strawberries dipped in ketchup. Take it a bit easy on your fixation if your child is a picky eater; their palate hasn’t yet developed, so it takes a while to introduce new foods. Try over and over again, with rewards and a balance between healthy as well as fun foods.
- Take good care of yourself: There are 100% chances that you’re doing better than you think but will burn yourself out trying to achieve perfection. Look, life isn’t an Instagram feed; you can’t filter out the ugly aspects of life from reality. There will be days where you will not feel like parenting but have the duty to do so. Lean on your partner and family to help do this, and take a break. If you’re not lactating anymore, book yourself a retreat with the girls, get a monthly wine subscription and take a couple of days off-duty to come back rejuvenated.
- Try to nap at any chance you get: Helping babies fall asleep can be one of the most gruelling experiences in life. It is truly humbling to see your tricks not work, but frustrating too, especially if you haven’t slept a wink in 48 hours. Make sure that you take frequent naps whenever you get the chance. For instance when your baby finally falls asleep, or is being given a bath by a helpful relative, or is spending time with your partner. This will drastically help your mood, patience, and keep you sharper.
- Don’t pressurize yourself to bounce back: There is no bouncing back, per se. Your body changes in several ways and so does your mind. However, if you want to get fit again, do it from a place of consistency and take small steps. Your mom’s body is just as worthy of love and respect, if not more!
Wrapping Up:
Despite what every seasoned parent may have told you about parenting, you may feel as if your child will be different and more manageable. While some babies are really angels in disguise, they have their moments too! We hope that these tips help you feel better and enjoy your path to parenting.
