I’m in a few mom groups on Facebook and it seems that every few weeks, someone will ask what shows should they watch on Netflix? I always chime in with some of my favorite recommendations – Parenthood, Gossip Girl, Scandal, How I Met Your Mother, Orange is the New Black, New Girl, Arrested Development, The Walking Dead, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D….oh, how this list could go on!
But what about me? I have an ever growing list of shows that I want to watch on Netflix and basically, I need to dust off my shelfie. What’s a shelfie you ask? We all have them – they’re the shows you’ve been wanting to watch but they’ve been sitting on the virtual shelf because…well, because you’re a parent and who has the time? Below are the three shows that have been on my shelfie forever and that I need to start!
Friday Night Lights
Yes, I know that Friday Night Lights went off the air in 2011 but it seems like a show that I STILL hear about. It’s such a pop culture hit and so many people tell me that I need to watch this show ASAP. With 5 seasons to catch up on, I know it might take me a few days {okay, weeks} but I’m determined to knock Friday Night Lights off my shelfie this year.
Mad Men
I’m so ashamed to say that my husband and I gave up on Mad Men years ago. I’m not quite sure why because we were really enjoying it but I think it’s because we had so many other shows building up that took precedence. Mad Men ended last year and Jon Hamm just finally won an Emmy, so I think it’s time to dust Mad Men off my shelfie and catch up on this hit show.
House of Cards
Two words. Kevin Spacey. WHY am I not watching House of Cards yet?! I hear the show is so good and right now, seasons 1 through 3 are available to watch on Netflix. If it’s anything like the addiction of watching Orange is the New Black, I know it will be good.
Bonus – Park and Recreation
I figured I would mention a comedy that I have on my shelfie. Comedies are easier to watch but it’s still hard with three kids running around. Parks and Recreation is another show that I’m not quite sure I didn’t watch since I like other comedies similar to it like The Office. So it’s definitely one I’ll have to watch soon!
What are some shows that you need to get off your virtual shelf?
Disclosure: I am part of the Netflix Stream team and compensation has been received. However, we have loved Netflix for years. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I love how I can always find something on Netflix to watch. It can be dangerous though to have a whole season you can stream through all the way.

Oh Netflix. We watch Netflix everyday at our house. We just finished Gilmore Girls and Friday Night Lights is in our queue. Who needs cable/dish when there’s Netflix!!

Friday Nights Life is the best! It is the number one show I recommend to people to watch as I love it so much. Gilmore Girls is also wonderful and a great recommendation. Parks and Rec gets funnier in the later seasons. Enjoy!
