Carpet. It’s the beautiful stuff I have in my house that I want to stay clean all the time. There is only one thing stopping it from being clean all the time. Kids! I love my kids, but they sure do know how to stain up the carpet from time to time. Here are some tips for keeping your carpet clean.
Preventative care is important
This is especially true when you have kids. When doing crafts or something else crazy on the carpet, put something on top of the carpet. It never fails that something can go wrong and your carpet can be ruined. I’d say when it comes to carpet care, preventative care if super important.
Always test a small patch of carpet before cleaning
There was one time I was trying to get a huge stain out of the carpet. Turns out, the carpet cleaner was a bit abrasive. It ended up leaving a huge white spot on the center of the carpet. A hard lesson was learned that day, always test a small patch of carpet before cleaning. You never know how your carpet will react, so do a small test patch first.
Blot, don’t rub the carpet
This is also a lesson that I have learned the hard way. Blot the carpet when trying to get a stain out, don’t rub it. When you rub it, you will simply spread the stain around. Blotting helps to slowly eliminate the stain. It may take longer, but it creates less of a mess when trying to clean carpet.
Update your flooring
When it comes to your flooring, it’s important to update it every occasionally. If your flooring is shot, not may be a nice time to upgrade. You can only fight stains for so long. The upstairs and stairs desperately need new carpet after many years of cat throw up. Did the downstairs two years ago. Saving up for it to be done in 2017.
