Even before I was pregnant I would hear of cool traditions parents would have for their kids and I would make a mental note to do that once I had kids. Here are a few ideas and traditions I have came across.
Oh, The Places You’ll Go
The Dr. Seuss book Oh, the Places You’ll Go is a popular book for high school and college graduates and I can’t wait to get one for Hayden. I’m so glad that I came across this idea from Lisa’s Workshop.
Purchase the book when your child is young and each year bring the book to have his current teacher {or any other special staff members!} leave a note or memory in the book. Can you imagine the memories your child will have when they receive this as a graduation gift? It will be a great keepsake for sure!

DIY Shirt Quilt
Yes, I originally saw the idea in the Twilight movie, but you have to admit it’s pretty cool. We travel a lot and we are always buying Hayden a shirt from that city or a landmark that we visited.
I’m not too sure how cool Hayden will think this is 15 years from now, but I hope it’s something he will appreciate. I’ve already started to put all the shirts aside in a special bin.

21st Birthday Wine
This is a really easy tradition for your child. Buy a bottle of wine from the year your child was born and save it for their 21st birthday! You’ll have to wait a few years after your child is born, but it will be such a great present!
I had a friend whose parents did this for her and her siblings and they all loved it. I remember her being so excited for her 21st birthday wine!

Baseball Cards
Baseball cards can end up being very valuable and for only $50 you can buy a complete box of baseball cards to start off a collection for your little one.
Since we’re already raising Hayden to be a baseball fan, we’ve decided to get him a box of baseball cards every year. Years from now he will have a nice collection, special memories and maybe even some valuable cards!

I love that you are buying Hayden baseball cards each year. What a great family tradition! I have the entire newspaper from each of the days my girls were born. I think it will be neat for them to look back on one day (and for me too!)
How fun! I love the idea of buying a bottle of wine from a child’s birth year and then pulling it out on their 21st birthday! I’m sure that my husband would like the baseball cards, because it would give him an excuse to have more of them around here…
OH I think I’ve gotten so busy raising the kids I’ve forgotten all about the traditions that they’ll remember forever 🙂

We got Baybah baseball cards for him when he was born, but he found them and opened them:( We wanted to save them until he got older. Little Stinker! lol
I write them a birthday letter each year. They’ve never gotten these letters.. They will when they are older 🙂

The wine is a very clever idea. I am not a wine drinker but I bet that is many people would like that.
My hubby would love the baseball card idea. He collects hockey cards.
