Morocco is one of those destinations in which you will fall in love at first glance. The most representative example of a mixture of European and African influences, this kingdom represents a unique blend of natural and social contrasts. Imperfectly rich and extremely poor live in the same area, united in the same faith and obedience to the current monarch, whose dynasty leads this beautiful country for several centuries.
If you decide to visit locations near borders or in isolated regions, you must be very careful when choosing an arrangement. The general advice is not to travel independently; only decide on one of Morocco vacation packages by verified agencies that are organized in larger groups.
Two Sides of Moroccan Coastline
Tourists who travel to this country for the first time have two choices. To get acquainted with the coastlines, which are home to luxurious holiday resorts and monumental Casablanca or to start your journey from some of the imperial cities (Fez, Meknes, Marrakesh, and Rabat).
Atlantic Coast
The Moroccan coast on the Atlantic Ocean is very diverse – sandy beaches crowded with tourists, isolated bays, fishing villages, and luxury hotels. A modern resort located in Agadir, which does not represent the typical city in Morocco, because it is mostly renovated with modern buildings, is one of the favorite tourist destinations for travelers with the major goal of relaxing on the sandy beaches and the sea.
The untypical Atlantic climate, average air humidity and the lack of strong winds typical of the Atlantic coast put this place at the top of favorite destinations. Very unusual for the sub-Saharan state is that, even in the hottest period, staying here is very pleasant. Even in the winter period, when the temperature “drops” to 20 ˚C, this bay abounds in tourists.
Mediterranean Coast
The northern coast of Morocco, with the largest and most significant city of Tangier, is diametrically opposed to the Atlantic coast. This part of the country was the residence of Phoenicians, the Portuguese, the Romans, the French and the English, and the effects of all these are visible.
Tangier, which is the part of Morocco nearest to Europe, is an unusual mix of cultures. Visitors can enjoy discovering this city through magnificent art, history, and architecture. In free time, they can relax in numerous shops, boutiques, and modern bars and restaurants in European and Oriental style.
Beaches are especially attractive for tourists; they are practically swimming in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic at the same time. From this city, there is a beautiful view on the Spanish coast, and if you have a chance and enough time, take a day out for an “overseas” visit to Gibraltar. Marine tourism on the rest of the Mediterranean coast is still in development, although it has a lot of potential.
Be Careful with Food
The specialties of Moroccan cuisine are unavoidable when visiting this country because they represent a feast for all the senses. The pleasure is complete if you choose one of the local restaurants, with a traditional ambiance and live music. The variety and tastiness of oriental sweets deserve a particular article. Still, be careful with street food because you are not sure how it is made and served. Also, avoid putting ice in drinks, since only bottled water it is recommended in Morocco.
No matter how attractive this country is to tourists, you should take care of many things if Morocco is your next travel destination. Given that this has become a global problem, this African country also has a general danger of terrorism, especially in tourist destinations.
One more thing to note about keeping the health of travelers is avoiding contact with animals. Moroccans can offer to take a shot of you with a monkey, camel or some other animal. Sounds interesting, but still skip it.
