Can you believe these girls are already 4 months old {actually 2 weeks from being 5 months old!}? I know I can’t! So many things have happened since I wrote about their 3 month update.
This past month has been a real whirlwind and I almost think it’s been a lot harder than that first month. We had gotten into a nice routine and both girls were sleeping through the night. We were so well rested and then BAM – 4 month sleep regression {It’s a thing! Our pedi told us so as did Dr. Google!} hit us big time. It started with Evie waking up several times a night – and sometimes each hour- wanting to either nurse, cuddle or need her paci. She would wake Olivia so we ended up moving Evie to our room so she wouldn’t disturb Olivia. We had a glorious week of just having Evie wake up at night while Olivia continued to sleep through the night. Now? They are both up several times a night which makes this Mama tired.
In the wee hours of the night, I’m browsing Pinterest and looking up information on this 4 month sleep regression and sleep training. I don’t remember having to do much with Hayden and I’m so hesitant to try CIO {Yes, I know, it’s controversial!!} but their pediatrician has recommended it. I’m struggling to figure out what to do since they share a room. I know they need their sleep because they end up being exhausted during the day – but they are so smiley and hungry in the middle of the night! I’m hoping that once we get to 5 months, it might get a bit better.
Adding to the 4 month sleep regression, they are both also teething! We had one of the worst nights ever this week so I hopped on to Amazon and bought 2 Amber Teething Necklaces that should arrive today. I’m looking forward to seeing if they will give the girls any relief.
The girls had their 4 month appointment which means SHOTS. {Didn’t I tell you that this month has been hard?}. Olivia weighs in at 13 pounds and Evie weighs in at 14.5 pounds! Both girls are in the 25% for height {our family is a bunch of shorties} and Olivia 25% for weight and Evie 50% for weight, which the doctor says is great!
A few weeks ago when I was in Los Angeles for the Monsters University Premiere {which was such a hard decision to go. It sounds silly, but it really was} Evie got sick. Her fever started creeping up and she started getting worse while I was at the airport and my flight was delayed. As my husband updated me, I literally was walking around LAX crying because I wasn’t there. The best part? Not a single person stopped me or said anything. I guess everyone’s so crazy there it didn’t matter. 🙂 Just kidding!!!
When I got home around 1:30 am, I slept for a few hours before I was up with Evie and at the ER with her for a 104+ fever. It turned out that she had a bladder infection and she was admitted into the local children’s hospital for a few nights. It definitely was one of the toughest experiences I have gone through as a Mom. She had an IV in her head and she was not happy or comfortable so we both didn’t get much sleep. Plus, it was hard getting home to Olivia to make sure I nursed her, Evie didn’t have an appetite so I was pumping at the hospital. WHEW! It’s been a whirlwind, I tell ya!
Okay, after all that complaining, let’s get on to the good stuff!
When they are not teething or crying in the middle of the night, they are super cute, smiling cuddly babies! Seriously, their faces light up when I walk into the room and who can resist that?! They finally noticed each other and will spend their days lying next to each other, grabbing each others hands OR chewing on each others hands, which is adorable. Both girls are flipping during tummy time and Evie absolutely loves for us to sit her up as much as possible.
They both love listening to the Despicable Me Soundtrack {as does my 5 year old} and love when I sing to them {even though my husband, son and dog complain, these girls love me!}.
On a side note, I have to give a shout out to my 5 year old. He is amazing with them. So helpful when I need to get a burp cloth or paci and if one is crying, he will try and sing or be silly with them. Sure, there are times when he yells at me that they are crying and gets annoyed but he is a rocking big bro!
Now, here’s a few pictures for you to enjoy!
Coming up soon….5 months old!
Aren’t they just the CUTEST?!! My goodness, what a blessing. Growing so fast!
Thank you! Such a blessing!
They are so cute and getting so big. People in CA are crazy, I live in CA so I know this. There are some nice people though LOL.
They are soooo cute!!! I can’t even imagine how hard it has been…I hope the sleeping gets better for all of you! You’re doing a great job, mama! 🙂
They are absolutely adorable. I hope they start sleeping for you again.
Congrats on making it through your first few months as a twin mommy. I did Baby Wise with my twins and they learned to sleep through the night fast. It’s a modified CIY method since you gradually leave them. Good luck on whatever you end up doing.
Thank you! I’m going to look into Baby Wise. Did your twins share a room?
I love them. They are so sweet! I can’t imagine how cute it is to watch them play together. Do you belong to any twin mommy groups? I think there is Moms of Multiples in STL. I would imagine they may have some great info. Baby D did the sleep regression thing… Hasn’t changed yet. 🙁
I do belong to the MOM group in St. Louis. It seems to be CIO or a modified version is recommended for twins. 🙁 They are in the same room so it’s just so tough. This 4 month regression is tough!! I don’t remember Hayden going through it as much.
I just passed out from their cuteness. Seriously. They are so freaking adorable!!!
Ah, I just love these two to pieces! We did the CIO method at our house, it’s tough at first, but worked like a charm for us. So glad to hear Hayden is a great big brother too!
Wow! A double blessing and a handful! Congrats on getting through 4 months!
Oh my Mommy…you have to be exhausted but they are definitely adorable. SO hard on you right now and just make sure you are trying to take care of yourself because you need the energy. I hope you can get help from family or friends to just give you an occasional break…maybe to get some much needed rest. Will be looking forward to the 5 month pics of these precious baby girls
