Ways To Keep Kids Entertained and Learning This Summer

It’s easy to let the kids do whatever they want in the summer. For my kids, that would be watching endless YouTube videos on the iPad or making a new batch of slime everyday. I usually like to let them have a week or two of mindless fun and then try and get into a routine where not only are we keeping them busy and entertained but also they are learning a bit too.

My kids love going to our local library. There are some fun events to attend and they love checking out all of the new books. This summer, I signed them up for the Summer Reading Program and we have promised to have a reading hour every day. This is a great way to keep kids entertained but also not fall behind on reading during the summer.

Get Creative

My kids love to get creative – and messy! I used to panic about the mess but I now know that it’s an important part of them being able to show off their creative side. We have a special bin set up at the kitchen table and it’s full of paper, markers and crayons. When I really want to keep them occupied for awhile, I pull out the paint and let them go at it! My 10 year old son loves to decorate old boxes and connect them together to build towers. I love seeing their creative side be unleashed – and that’s such an important part of learning too!
