It’s easy to let the kids do whatever they want in the summer. For my kids, that would be watching endless YouTube videos on the iPad or making a new batch of slime everyday. I usually like to let them have a week or two of mindless fun and then try and get into a routine where not only are we keeping them busy and entertained but also they are learning a bit too.
Summer Reading Club
My kids love going to our local library. There are some fun events to attend and they love checking out all of the new books. This summer, I signed them up for the Summer Reading Program and we have promised to have a reading hour every day. The kids are excited about filling up a chart with minutes spent reading, discovering new books and characters and maybe even earning some prizes. This is a great way to keep kids entertained but also not fall behind on reading during the summer.
Get Creative
My kids love to get creative – and messy! I used to panic about the mess but I now know that it’s an important part of them being able to show off their creative side. We have a special bin set up at the kitchen table and it’s full of paper, markers and crayons. When I really want to keep them occupied for awhile, I pull out the paint and let them go at it! My 10 year old son loves to decorate old boxes and connect them together to build towers. I love seeing their creative side be unleashed – and that’s such an important part of learning too!
Challenge Them With Fun Apps
I love a good app that not only lets them have fun but challenges them too. I’m thrilled with both the Highlights for kids ages 6 and up and the Highlights Hidden Pictures Puzzle Town app for kids ages 3-6. All three of my kids have loved playing with these apps and I have to admit that I have too!
My kids love their iPads! For some reason, watching videos and playing games from their device just makes things more fun. So I’m always looking for apps that will be educational AND fun. That’s why I’m loving that Highlights for Children has brought its world-famous Hidden Pictures puzzles to life! The apps are fun and challenging for kids and parents can be assured that it’s the quality content we’ve always get from Highlights.

Hidden Pictures Puzzle App
I downloaded the Hidden Pictures Puzzle app for Hayden, my 10 year old son to enjoy on his iPad. I knew that he would enjoy this app but I didn’t expect him to play it for close to an hour the first time he opened it! He loved the different challenges and it really motivated him to keep trying and looking for something if he didn’t find it the first time. The more puzzles he solves, more exciting puzzle challenges are unlocked!
The Hidden Pictures Puzzles app is an interactive version of the puzzles that families have loved for generations. It’s a game that your child can play alone or with you! I enjoyed sitting down and playing with my son and he thought it was fun to challenge me. If you’re looking for a brain-booster this summer, the Hidden Pictures Puzzles app is it!
