The summer has flown by and it’s already time for the kids to head back to school. This year, Hayden is in 5th grade and Olivia and Evie are entering Kindergarten! I’ve decided that this year, they are only going to buy lunch on Friday’s (pizza day, it’s their favorite!) and make lunches the rest of the week. There’s been so many times over the years that I’ve sent a lunch with Hayden and he doesn’t eat it all or doesn’t like what I sent. So I’ve been brainstorming ideas on ways to make school lunches more fun! When the kids have fun school lunches, they will eat more and it’s also a fun way to give them a smile in the middle of the day from you!
Ways To Make School Lunches More Fun
Get the Kids Involved
When you get the kids involved at the store to help you pick out food for their lunches, they will find it more fun to eat! I like bringing my kids with me up to Schnucks as we pick out groceries to include in their lunchbox. That way I know they are picking out something they will eat and they also get excited remembering how they were “big kids” and shopped for it themselves.
Check Out Social Media
Seems like this might be a no brainer, but Pinterest is the best inspiration to check out when you’re looking for ways to make school lunches more fun! I started a School Lunch Ideas Pinterest Board that I’m going to be checking out frequently as well as searching for new ideas too! Instagram is also a great place to search for fun lunch ideas under the hashtag #lunchideas and #lunchboxideas! I also love the kid-friendly recipes over on the Schnucks blog!
Get Creative with Lunch
There’s so many ways out there to make lunch fun for the kids! I checked out the August issue of Simply Schnucks for some lunch inspiration and decided to put together a fun lunch for Hayden featuring a smiling pizza, fresh blueberries and Cheez-It crackers saying Hi!
I know there’s no way my kiddos could open their lunchbox, see this lunch and not smile! It’s so cute that I want to eat it! This was so simple to make and I know that it will bring a smile to my kid’s face AND they will eat it because it’s all stuff they helped me shop for while at Schnucks. Make sure to include a fun treat like these No-Bake Energy Balls!
I also like to include a little note in the lunchbox! It could be something encouraging or maybe a funny joke!
Back to School with Schnucks
When it comes to back to school shopping for lunches, Schnucks is the place to go! (You may have even found me there the night before school started at 10pm….) They have recipe stops throughout the store where you can grab kid-friendly recipe ideas and they have everything you need to create a fun lunch!
What are some ways you make school lunches fun for your kids?
