WHY TEENAGERS PURCHASE FAKE IDS

The United States designed a law that only permits young adults aged 21 or more to enter bar premises and consume alcohol. This is called the drinking age act implemented in the year 1984. Young people opposed this decision until the present especially those who are 18 years old. Despite the hostility towards this law, there were no changes or revisions. The law is for the sake of the safety of the citizens from committing crimes and reckless behavior; to keep them from encountering accidents related to drunk driving.

Young people to young adults have a greater tendency to drink and party. They are also known to drink and drive more compared to adults. Curiosity, peer pressure, and freedom to decide are the factors that influence them to drink or go to bars. These factors intensify upon reaching the age of 18. Parents do not have the power to restrict their children to consume alcoholic beverages at that age. Due to the restrictions, many young people resort to online or local fake ID makers. They purchase these IDs to doctor their age and qualify them to enter clubs and consume alcohol. Teenagers who are doing these are getting rampant nowadays.

Aside from escaping the age requirement for entering bars and drinking alcohol, there are other reasons teenagers feel the need to buy a fake ID. To better understand young people, we need to be aware of these.

First, they buy fake IDs to enjoy nocturnal activities. Young people are often nocturnal beings. Since school and job take place in the morning through the afternoon, they reserve entertainment and recreation during the night. Most of them do not just want to go shopping in malls or standby in coffee shops. They also do not want to settle for evening strolls at the park. Youngsters want to go to clubs and drink with their friends.  Some teens do not necessarily drink alcohol but they just want to party in clubs to release their stress. Since public areas or restaurants do not serve alcohol, they get tempted to purchase fake IDs. Clubs do not allow minors to enter their establishment since the law says so. They also get penalties for doing so. But young people are wise enough to get their fake IDs and forge their age so that they can enter undetected anytime.

Second, young men want to impress women by pretending they are older than their actual age. Many women are into older men and being young means a lesser probability to get a date (unless women are into minors or underaged men.) Well, not all women would require for an ID, but especially for young men who also look young, you might need some sort of verification. This is a harmless reason to purchase an Id, then again, you must be careful.

Third, to create many accounts on social media. Gone are the days when registering an account to any social media platform is easy as pie. In the past, social media sites only require only email addresses. But nowadays, to avoid troll accounts and spam, one of the steps to create and verify an account in social media is by presenting a valid ID. With a fake id, a single person can have different accounts. Why would they want many different accounts? Some youngsters want to have a separate account for friends and family. There are just some things teenagers do not want their family to know about, and they are free to post anything they like without family members reprimanding or judging them.

Fourth, teenagers buy fake IDs for pranking their friends. Pranking is now a popular activity among teenagers and is widely promoted by vloggers and influencers. For pranking purposes, teens buy fake IDs to trick their friends into posing as somebody different. This seems harmless, yet again, extra care is a must.

Fifth, they want to steal an identity or cover up their real identity. This usually happens in crime or investigation movies or tv shows, especially with spies or double agents. Most kids do this to benefit from a person’s circumstance, though this is rare and very dangerous. It could lead to grave consequences in the law.

Sixth, they fear missing out. In other words, they fear that they cannot join those who can already party and it causes anxiety on their part. By purchasing fake IDs, they can join other college students and their friends and have the time of their lives.

Seventh, to travel alone. Those who are 18 years below cannot travel by themselves. They cannot rent a ride or book for accommodations unless they are 21 years and above. Therefore, youngsters buy fake IDs for this purpose.

Lastly, for other entertainment purposes, like the casino or playing the lotto. To play these games, one must be more than 18 years. This is why one of the reasons why teens purchase fake IDs.
