Hayden is in Kindergarten and you wouldn’t believe all of the things he is learning in the classroom! Math, Science, Social Studies, Spelling, Reading and of course, Art, Music and PE! He is a busy little guy and I’m always amazed with all of the stuff he comes home knowing. The one thing I was surprised though was all of the homework that he has. Every Friday he has to turn in 3-4 pages of homework that we work on at home plus he has a sight word test every Friday.
In our family, we are a big lover of flash cards. I remember I used to love making flash cards when I was still in school and my husband even created an app called AR Flashcards to help kids learn the alphabet! Hayden loved it when he was younger but now he has grown out of it a bit. Since he has a test every Friday about the sight words he is learning, I decided it would be helpful to create flash cards for him. When it comes time for him to cram for those tests, we go to Cram.com!
I was able to use the site to type in all of Hayden’s sight words. Then it displayed him for him right on the computer for him to swipe through. There was also an option to test him on the words too! For a tech-savvy kid like my son, this was a lot more fun than going through boring index cards! Plus, I loved that the website popped up with related flashcards so we could browse through other people’s flashcards. If you don’t want to make your flashcards public you can even make them private so only you can see them.
Using these flash card have been a great help to Hayden as he prepares for his test each week. In addition to working on his sight words with flash cards, I’ve also found a lot of good resources and worksheets to do at home – learning doesn’t stop when you leave school!
